Confused on Fleet Groupings

So I'm currently playing as advent right now, and I'm having trouble grouping my fleets. I like to group my cap ships and guardians so they stay close. However, even when I disable the auto join fleet, my illums still will crowd around the capital ship. This isnt bad normally in big battles, but it becomes a pain when I am trying to ram them down the enemy's throat and they just run back to the cap ship after. Any ideas/tips?

If you want to maneuver them separately, I think you'll have to make them a separate fleet.
