Medium AI versus Hard AI in 1.04

Hello all. I am relatively new to the game, but am a long time rts player. I have seen the joke post in "General" where some guy thanked the devs for making the AI stand and fight. I, however, have seen no difference in 1.04. I love playing in huge single random maps, and often i can chew up and spit out a medium AI without ever having to face his fleet head on. Would a hard AI stand and fight where a medium AI would run? is there any bonus or advantage a hard AI has over a player? I If anyone could shed some light on the subject, that would be great. oh, and here is what often happens My fleet 3 caps, various levels between 4 and 6 30 something disciples 40 illuminators 20 crusaders 10 drone hosts Their fleet 20 disciples 10 illuminators 1 cap 10 crusaders 5 drone hosts 3 hangar defences various turrets they come at my fleet when it first trickles in, but swing back to the edge of the gravity well and flee to the next planet. They wont even defend their homeworld!

Try Hard.

The AI only gets a +100% economic bonus on unfair. So playing hard the AI is still fair.

so what exactly is different between medium and hard?
End of quote

Better AI algorithms.

I.e. on hard the AI doesn't retreat that fast and shouldn't retreat from it's homeworld, for example.

The key word is "shouldn't".

Has anyone noticed that the Unfair AI will never surrender? And that the AI all have around 1 minute delay before they start building anything? Kinda odd... But I guess it's good cause now it's possible to match the unfair AI's build rate.
