New to the game

I'm an old Civ fan and I've been looking for something like this for a long time, it seems the learning curve is rather high. I've done the tutorials and read the manuel, any suggestions on my choices for my first game? Any hints would be appreciated.

Greets Peter,

Start small and work your way up :) Probably the best way to start. Small random map, versus one easy AI - should give you time to work things out as you go along.

As you find things you don't understand, ask here or look them up. By the time you finish your first game you should be much more comfortable in the driving seat and ready to ramp up the difficulty, system size and number of AI.

Just jump in really :)
Cheers,
Mopy

Yeah, start on a small map and cruise these boards for info/advice. I'm new to the whole strategy genre in general, so that's what I've been doing. So far, so good. Enjoy!

Yep just jump into it. When you have a handle of things go online, Remember you will probably loose agaist an experienced player but you will learn valuable strategies. Cant learn if you dont play.

Welcome to the game. Jumping in and starting off small and slow is probably a good idea. Also, when I started I found this chart to be a good resource in deciding which kinds of ships to build: Ship Information Chart

Thanks, I was trying to start w/ a large scenerio, so I'll take your advise and start small.
