That SinsPLus mod may help by adding more planet styles for you to choose, and makeing Gas planets colonizable.

thanks, will see if I can use that mod.

170 planets??? I though there were thousands of solar systems.

Anyway, 170 planets is enough and, coupled with a good star wars mod, it would be awesome. :D

One question though, it would be 170 planets, but how many stars, and how many planets per star?

The Star Wars Galaxy is made up of "regions" (Listed in main post) each region has one star. However, the Unknown Regions will have more then 1 star, so it should add up to 8 or more stars all together and more then 200 planets. Sadly my starwars guide does not say what these unknown regions include (thats why they are called unknown lol) so i would have to make something up for them. You can also give me some Ideas and suggestions.

There are thousand of planets in the SW galaxy im guessing that theres only about 200 that have ever been named in movies, books, comics or anything else.plus anything bigger then 200 might lag when theres enough ships, planets active.

The map will not include all 1000 planets. Just the ones that have been named. Wes992 is right, it would cause a FPS of 5 :)

Wow, kudos for working on this. Making maps based on stuff is rough.

I made a solar system and surrounding stars map and it took me for friggin' ever to work with the coordinates and scale them so jump time wasn't unbearable.

How long do you think this is going to take to make?

I am a fast worker, but with all those different planets and of course all the testing I have to do... 2 - 3 weeks.

But I will post some screens and maby videos for a little preview

And I have a question for you guys: Should the Star wars galaxy include Pirate bases ? I mean its Star Wars and I dont think pirates exist, but I want to make shure.

Can the Huts be considered "pirates"?

Hell I think the Rebellion (in its early stages) could be considered pirates. Using hit and run targets on imperial targets, capturing its supplies, then "sailing off" and taking refuge in remote planets, while not formally claiming any planet.

Pirates a-la-Sins? Well in sins pirates are fleets that attack a target based on its bounty. In Star Wars there are bounty hunters and smugglers, but these work individually, not as a pirate fleet.

So i guess the answer would be a no. There shouldn't be pirates in these maps, imho.

Black Sun Pirates,Rogue Corsec and Pirate Mercs are all pirates that have been included in the SW galaxy, but Gabal is right these pirates wouldnt work with sins.

the old republic (before the clone wars) had a million worlds, excluding those outside the republic (Chiss, some other species...) it's probably only 170 specifically appearing in cannon, though i doubt that :P.

I already started making wookie noises while playing to get ready for this.

There is going to be a star wars atlas out next year and according to the author there will be over 4000 planets maped. And those are only the planets that have already be named in star wars canon.

Here is a fan made map with all the planets that have officialy been placed.

google star wars galaxy maps... there are numerous maps available. I was actually in the process (Very early) of making a larger galaxy map as well, including ship graveyards, random asteroids, etc. which would show up only a certain % of the time, so the map had some changes to it each time it was played....

Some of the maps have more than 170 planets.

How are you working the layout of the stars since the outer rim, for example, completely surrounds the core and it is basically like the rings of a target?

There are probably 170 home worlds or major worlds. I'm sure there isn't just 170.

There is WAY More than 170... I made a galaxy map for a conquest version of Starship Battles, and I had 107 systems on there without even trying hard. I'd say there are twice that many planets on the galaxy map I found on google, if not three times as many.

I've had 700 planets and it did not lag. GG

i'll post the stats from the star war wiki:

The galaxy was one of the billions of galaxies that existed in the universe. This galaxy was particularly important since it was the setting of the histories of the Galactic Republic, the Galactic Civil War, the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Jedi and the Sith.

Judging from the maps available, it appeared to be a galaxy of Sb type. According to some sources, the galaxy was 120,000 light years across, or 37,000 Parsecs (a parsec is 3.258 light years) across. A black hole existed at the center of the galaxy.

There were approximately 400 billion stars and around half of these had planets that could support life. 10% of those developed life, while sentient life developed in 1/1000 of those (about 20 million). The galaxy was populated by approximately 100 quadrillion different life forms.

*************************************************************

The exact number of planets in the Republic fluctuated, but in 21 BBY it was a little less than 1.3 million planets.
