Modding the ship size/scale

How do you mod the size/scale of ships?  I thought that the "mass" variable would do this, but it seems to have no effect on the size of the ship in-game.

I think you have to edit the models in software like xsi modtool or 3ds max er something. good luck.

So you cannot simply mod the game files to increase or decrease the size of the ship in-game? You have to actually modify the scale of the original model? What if you are working with the games existing ships rather than user-created models? (I do not have 3dmax so I cannot edit the models from the game’s .mesh files)

That's right, you cannot modify the scale of ships without editing the models themselves. That includes the vanilla ships.

Is there a change that can be made to the .mesh file via Notepad that will alter the size/scale of the ships?

Nope. One of the first things I tried. :) You have to edit the models themselves.
