quick question

doesnt modding provide players too much power to cheat?

i like to play the game offline so if i mod a race to god like status (ie i NEVER play online)

wouldnt that be a good way to well just plain win

and if so why cant we just go hog wild with our favorate race (mine happens to be vasari)

i know the best way to learn to get good with a game is to have the computer beat the snot outta ya

it has believe me over 40 losses on normal here (ive only won 2 games at normal and those were on small maps which i created)

and wouldnt making your favorate race a bit stronger than normal still be considered cheating?

Well, yes, considering you're playing offline who cares? Do you have dissociative personality disorder or something, where one personality complains about the other cheating?

You either do it or you don't. Being able to cheat in single-player is hardly a new thing.

You can make a mod that is essentially cheating I suppose, but mostly they are used to tweak the game in one form or another. Most simply rebalance or add fun new things, not just make one uber race of pownage.

Yes you can do what you say, but that is really not the point of modding... unless that is what floats your boat, then have fun.

Most people strive to balance but it is often the hardest part of the mod

besides creating it :P

It can be cheating or not. It really all comes down to your point of view on "cheating". If you design a map that has a stronger area (ex: more resources or a chokepoint)and you go to that area to build up a base, wouldn't that be cheating? Modding is the same way. Differnet mods do different things. I use the sins plus mod, which adds some planet types and bonuses, so that wouldn't be "cheating" becuase it keeps things balenced. Of course i also created a simple mod which makes Advent unstoppable, which would be "cheating". I guess its all up to the players point of view.

For single player, it's entirely at your whim. It really doesn't matter what you do so long as you're having fun.

cool though... having 50 cap ship at your own whim... lol

my simple point about cheating: if SP then it's ok and if it's MP damn hell it's not ok... if it involves other players then cheating must be prohibited... and in terms of SP i prefer to call it aggressive modding with benefits... lol

How about Borderline!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!

anyway, how much restraint you use will depend entirely on your goals, If you want to wipe the mat with 9 unfair players, then you have the power. When that gets boring your goals will change, and you will modify the game to fulfill some other secret wish :) :D mu hu ha ha ah ahahahhha ha aha
