Retreat hotkey not working

For an often-used order like Retreat, I'd prefer to just click F then R instead of having to manually click the Retreat button once I'm in the right screen. Problem is, once I'm in the Fleet order screen, with the Retreat button that confirms it's mapped to R and all, pressing R will not do anything. I tried changing the key mapping and pressing R in various situations and with different ships. Other hotkeys seem to work. Anyone had the same problem?

Odd!

I wasn't really sure if this was happening or not.

I believe you may be sending conflicting commands to the same ship.

For example:
You have a fleet mapped to Ctrl-1

You select the specific ship (say, your second favorite capital ship) and tell him to retreat. Then you press 1 (which selects the whole fleet including the one you just told to retreat) and order them to mass attack an enemy capital. Suddenly your capital dies and you wonder what happened.

This is what happened to me after I sat back and thought about it. Although, I too feel that a retreat key should be a little stronger.

I'd like the retreat to remove that ship from any key bindings, and fleets, and retreat out. The fact that I use key bindings and fleet groupings so much means it's hard to retreat out the one ship that is damaged. Either it regroups to the leader after it's escaped (putting it back in the battle), or you select it again by accident with the key binding.

It's worse than that... no orders are overrided, no conflicting commands. The hotkey simply does nothing at all, no matter the circumstances.

Searching on Google to cover other forums, I've discovered it's a pretty common problem, too. Figure it will be solved in a future patch.

As for your suggestion about removing the ship from its fleet and all... doesn't it already do that?

You have to be in Fleet Logistic thingy to work- or be able to see 'Retreat' for the hotkey to work I assume. And if you can see fleet logistics and you can't do anything.. It's a bug. But try that. (People these days... Not trying anything :P)

Gah, why doesn't the forums have an 'Edit' button. I forgot to add, Fleet Logistics or whatever it's called is where you can change how the fleet behaves, like setting Engagement ranges. And Gnord, try clicking it. Capitals are considerably expensive.
