ok, so heres the deal, ive been all over the internet, as well as conversing with my router's customer service (linksys WRT54G wireless broadband router) attempting to successfully forward my ports. I have a gateway connection with my modem (westell 6100). my ISP is Verizon. Im attemting like everyone else to host my own server. I have successfully changed my IP to static and I forwarded ports through my routers configuration page, using the range 6112-6000. I still cannot host. hopefully some nice people here can answer some of my questions
questions:
1. when my connection has been changed static, does this change effect both my router AND my modem? do i have to individually set my modem to static as well?
2. when forwarding ports, which protocol should be used, TCP or UDP, or both...?
3. should my Network Address
Server Settings (DHCP) be enable or disabled and what is its correspondance with the entire process?
4. are there any small details in the predicament of changing the IP to static and forwarding ports that are essential to correctly tweaking these processes?
thnx
