Its cool folks, really appreciate that most on here realise being civil is best for all but yeah RB I hear you
and with what you have said in mind well I will just comment regarding some of the followup advice. I think its really useful to newbies, you see because of this thread I got the long range jumps and when I zoomed out I could see LOADS of systems. The thing is I knew stars did have some practical use but there was much I didnt know, for example antimatter regen and strategic uses.
I am playing a huge map called the Areolian sector with TEC, I seem to be starting out well and taking peoples advice about going ecco with TEC, heres the thing usually I at one point have a planet I must hold which has more than 1 entry point, I take roid and then try and take a home planet to the left and the faction from the right attacks my homeworld. Also if I try to get long range jumps and send a fleet to a star , the ai will attack one of my weaker cols. Great fun but although I attack quite early well I have a bad habit of not having enough fleet to protect my colonys.
At my home planet I put repair structures up, gauss guns. Im thinking if I could find some optimum way to get to the star and get far away colonies the quikest I will have a big advantage so is it mid game you folks go for a star, or just asap?
Really adds a great feel to the game stars though, Is it the case that certain factions start in the far away systems?
Either way .......cheers all because thats a whole other aspect of the game opened up! When I seen it I was like woe! a whole galaxy to conquer!
Consequantly I am playing on the aforementioned map with approximatly 8 ais Normal, its quite hard going sometimes. The funny thing is sometimes I start out owning but the ai but I always seem to make a mistake somewhere along the line that has me having to backtrack. (when I have to do this its like the ai starts behaving like a yo yo in and out of multiple systems lol)
I will learn I guess
(On that note I think Im going to watch a clan replay today and try and find a replay with good players playing hard ai)
edit
Rather than start yet another thread, I actually am wandering about how readily the ai uses stars? I started a medium map, myself and nother newbie in mp went on the same team. after a while he logged, so I was left playing with ai, the guy was actually a little better than myself so it wasnt a problem, we just did 4 people on the map, I had taken out 1 of the 2 enemy colonies , in the end there was one enemy colony left, I figured although it was the last colony in the system the ai would have more in the multitude of other systems beyond the star but it didnt so I won. My question then being , does the ai usually use stars?
