Help me

I consider myself a good strategy gamer and I know games like this can be daunting and difficult, but what am I doing wrong?

I started  alarge map, FFA, chose TEC, and got but owned in like hour by capital ships and all manner of uber butt owning ships within that time, and not only was it enough for one of them to butt own me, but they ALL ganged up and butt owned me....

they all made treaties or something?

I played empire at war and i know that real time play in a 4x game is daunting if you dont build up your empire as fast and as efficiently as possible or at least to a point where you can produce enough good stuff to defend your territory then its over..

help me!

Pretty much caused by them all making treaties with each other. In large FFA's, this game REQUIRES you to solve some of their missions and make some allies before too much time passes, or you will get reamed because you are the lone guy.

What's really helpful is if you can do enough missions to get one of the enemies that's closest to you to cease-fire with you. That means you can dedicate your defense efforts more to the other fronts.

Treaties are truly important. They should be made as soon as possible. While your treaties are in place you got to do three things: expand, research, fortify in that order. Treaties reeeeeeeeeally help!

OK what I did was to do a 10 player FFA - I locked teams - got about 20-25 hours into a large game and I am not only holding my own - I am gaining ground/planets - you might try this until you want to learn treaties

Agreed - that would really simplify the FFA learning curve... but I wouldn't keep with it too long. :)

There's something satisfying about completing a tough mission and getting an awesome resource bonus and keeping your ally against your back in the process. :)

well if that was your first time playing i recommend a small map cause even if your good a rts you still need to get the feeling of the game make sure not to overtax yourself make one planet at a time and be sure to make treaties with an AI near you and one fare away be sure they arent on unfair the TEC are like to me not that good *try Vasari* and build a big fleet and lots of defenses early on so youll be the big dog and dont let them all make treaties with everyone else and eat you also make sure you put bounty on an alliance your having trouble fighting the constant pirate raids can take a toll on them like attack during a raid that could help

ok so how do i nap them? give them lots of donations?

and their missions require me to beat up pirates, who in turn beat me uP :) :)

tahnks for the advice ill let you know how it goes

reason i didnt want to do a small map is because i want long involved great big campaign, i feel if i do a small map and win, ive seenit all. :)

Completing the missions they offer you. Solving two missions from any one player gives you 50% favour; solving three gives you 75%. Offers for cease fire will start coming in after you reach a certain amount of favour. (Not completing a mission loses some favour, but you never drop below zero, so just ignore missions from enemies that you're about to conquer unless they're combat-related and you want the resource bonus they provide)

Donating resources that weren't specifically asked for doesn't really do a lot for favour from what I've seen, although I could be wrong.

Note: trying to learn to play Sins on a giant FFA map is a little like learning to read by starting with War and Peace. :)

Another thing to note for diplomacy is that the TEC get a research option which improves 25% happiness rewards to 32% and their associated penalties to 12%, I think it was.

Trade alliances usually come in around 25%, cease fires at 50%, and peace treaties at 75%. I'm not really sure on the vision agreements, but they're normally somewhere around peace treaty levels.
Keep note that the AI will both accept and offer said agreements at those levels, regardless of whether you've locked sabers with him, so to speak.

Hey yoadjla I agree what you said earlier about TEC , I find the other 2 factions much more effective on the big maps FFA

What ya no ; no edit button! :)

Just to say that vasari is my favourite faction thus far because even though I havent played loads with vasari they are still more fun to play and dont feel overpowered
