Advent voices

Advent voices

Fairly new to the game, but i've had a quite a while to play as both TEC and Vasari.

Finally got around to the Advent today, and was kinda miffed at the fact that everybody sounds like a little child. Seems to detract from the race to me.

what do you guys think?

On a less subjective level, one of the things I dislike about many of the voice clips is that they're too much like an individual's response. What I mean is that you click on a ship and it says something like, (not direct quotes) "What can I do for you?", or "My robots are ready", or "Gotta job for me?"These responses make the ship feel like just a single guy, much like a unit in a game like Warcraft, instead of like a huge ship crewed by hundreds if not thousands of people.I don't necessarily mind if the TEC voices, for instance, aren't full of proper military protocol, but they still need to convey the feeling of talking to a ship's captain, even if he's an unprofessional ship's captain. And I'll still believe a ten-year-old girl is the captain of an Advent ship long before I'll believe that a nineteen-year-old surfer is the captain of a Human merchant vessel.

Think of it this way, someone higher up in the Chain of Command isn't going to issue orders to an entire ship, he's going to go to that ship's commander and give that individual the order, which the commander then relays that order to his crew.

Of course.

And, as a superior officer, the first time one of those ship's commanders answers the phone with, "What now?" he's going to find his bleach-blond, fake-tanned butt replaced by someone else.

Of course you're issuing orders to an individual, but that doesn't make the responses in the game FEEL like you're talking to an individual in charge of an entire ship.

I think the Advent have the best voices in the game. (That's not really saying much, but there ya go.)I don't think that cybernetically enhanced, psionic starship captains need to be grizzled old men with a voice born of decades of smoking and bad attitude.I think it's funny how many young men who play this game hate the Advent voices but like perfectly horrible voices like that of the Marza Dreadnought.

Well somone earlier mentioned DoW earlier and I always thought that the Eldar Farseer's voices would be great in the Advent... I mean that voice yields command... most of those other voices in the Advent almost sound like they came from the Dark Elves Dyrad's voice in Warcraft III... *cringe*... a wimpy voice to say in the least.

mind that some of the voices do in a way match up with avatars for the players and certian ships...

As for the Marza Dreadnought's voice... its a world of nastalgia... it kind of reminiscent of somthing out of the Terrans in Starcraft...

... not to emphasize the Blizzard industry, but somthing that comes to the top of my head, when discussing this topic.

the Advent voices are purely genius. they remind me of the creepy children that you see in horror movies. (or the creepy girl from FEAR)

TREMBLE BEFORE THE UNITY!

Of course you are right, however if they made all the units respond with proper military protocol then every unit would sound the same (except a different voice actor maybe) and it would be both boring and a little harder to tell which ship you just picked.

I think the voices are all just fine, and I don't think the advent sound like children.

I find myself missing the calm, professional, realistic voices of Homeworld.

You mean voice, singular. There is only one, crisp airline-pilotty voice in HW. I miss the music of Homeworld... and the storyline and how you were genuinely moving in 3d etc. but not so much the voice acting.

I love Advent's soundtracks. Way better than those of TEC and Vasari (bias added). But overall all of Sins' musics are superb!

None of the races have great voices, they're all pretty average.
I play a lot of TEC, and supposedly they're in a really desperate situation, yet none of that comes through. If you want good voicework, play Dawn of War.
