HC's usefullnes?

Are heavy cruisers really useful? I was playing as advent with a rolling economy so I decided to start building Destras. I had a bunch, like 100 in the mid game, but they ended up getting destroyed by a couple of enemy fleets. Then I changed my strat and started building Illuminators and now I own 3/4 of the galaxy. Was that a fluke or are Destras just not worth it?

What kinds of capship and other ships were you building and accompanying them with, or were they a one-shiptype-only fleet (which pretty much gets ANYTHING owned except illums)? Were you paying attention to the battles and retreating when you started losing, or did you dump your fleet into a system and let them go to work through AI decisions only?

Sins fleets work best when you mix them up. The only reason illums can own is because they're unbalanced.

Had you done any military research to improve your ships' shields, armor, hull, and weapons damage? If not then it's possible that your heaver cruisers were getting chewed up by an opponent that did.

Destras are best HCs. Combined with all their upgrades and the carrier's field they have the highest dps in the game.

Yup, end game, they can have 30+ dps thanks to the carrier's field. without cap ship support, and excluding their dps aura, they still get high 20's dps.
