I've been fiddling around with a mod for a week or so now, and I've got things more or less the way I want them, but there's a couple things I haven't managed to figure out. The first, and hopefully the simplest, question I have is whether or not there is any way to alter the maximum length for a ship name. I like to use Warhammer-ish names for my ships, but names like "Litany of Fury" and "Death of Creation" don't fit, which is rather annoying.
I'm also wondering if it's possible to change the scale of the various ships. I realize going overboard with this would wind up looking terrible, unless the models are considerably bigger than they are shown in-game, but I'd like a maybe 25-30% increase in capitol ship sizes, and maybe 15-20% for cruisers. Is this doable, or no?
And is it possible to add new types of ship to the game? I don't mean new models, I'm thinking more along the lines of expanding the total number of buildable hulls available to a player, so I could throw in an extra couple types of cruiser and/or frigate, for example.
Sort of related to the above question, is it possible to create weapons that don't do much damage, but have other effects instead? I'm thinking of weapons that could target engines, slowing down quicker ships to keep them from escaping the big boys, or something that could target weapons, increasing refire rate or somesuch, that would allow support ships to reduce the amount of damage other ships could do.
I'm also curious as to whether it would be possible to change the behaviour of fighters/carriers. As it stands, if you give a carrier ship the order to jump out of a system, all the fighters fly dock, and it jumps out with them. I was thinking of creating a strike carrier type ship that could jump in, unload it's fighters, and then jump back out again, and return to recover it's fighters when it was safe.
If anyone has any answers for me, it'd be much appreciated. Even if the answer is no.
