Or, you know, you could actually wait and see how the numbers changed, no?

as great as it was, it makes the game freeze. I have faith they didn't nerf it, just made it so it will not freeze the game.

Nonsense, I'm sure this thread will degenerate into malice soon enough! :)

P.S. read the news announcement on the main page. They definitely nerfed it. Which is good because it needed to be nerfed.

Hahaha awesome reply :D.

To the OP: Just have faith in the development team. All their balancing actions are geared towards making the game more enjoyable as a whole, not to piss of fans of a specific faction. Personally, I get no feeling of acomplishment if I win a fight using unbalanced game mechanics. The more balanced the game becomes, the more joy I get when winning. This too is coming from a person that soley plays Advent so hang in their brother in Unity :P!

Damn my bad, I ment to quote Craig Fraser on his "Here it comes" comment.

Sorry for the double post (am unable to edit my old ones).

...perhaps whatever forum programming bug that's causing it could use a little shot of cleansing brilliance? ;)

Well, sorry for the necro, but I figure it's time for a bump.

So, has anyone done any testing on Malice + Cleansing Brilliance post 1.05? There are just a couple of things that I'm wondering. Considering that Malice lasts 10 seconds now, it's still fully possible to get all 8 seconds of CB spread at 30% to how ever many ships are maliced at the time. However, the fact that it only lasts 10 seconds means you only have 2 seconds to line up the CB, versus 12 seconds before - a very difficult task taking CB's long aim and spool up times into account.

There's basically one thing acting as the lynch pin which determines whether this combo is still useful or not: does the change in the way Malice damage is calculated and applied mean that we can now use Malice AFTER the CB begins spooling up? Malice goes into effect almost instantly, meaning it's a lot easier to maximize the Malice/CB overlap if you start up CB and then Malice just before it fires. I know pre-1.05 that you had to use Malice first for some reason. Has that been changed?

I'll get around to testing it soon, but I don't have a lot of time to play so if anyone else can do it (or has done it), could I get some insights?

I have a Progenitor and a Radiance both at level 5 right now in a save game... just waiting until I can get back on.

I was writing a sarcastic statement when I made this post. I did feel malice was overpowered and it deserved a nerf.

It is no where near as effective anymore. It's not a bad ability in the early stages of the game. Level 3 malice combined with a rush where each side has 30 ish frigates, well, that's where malice is ideal now.

The nerf comes from limiting the number of targets. It used to be you could malice the entire enemy fleet, or at least definitely more than 24. Since it propogated 25% of the damage, all you had to do was destroy a capital ship affected by malice and goodbye enemy fleet.

You can't do that as much anymore. 30% damage propgation is sweet, but by limiting the number of targets malice's usefullness is lower.

And like the guy before me mentioned, the window for malice + cleansing brilliance is very small if you'r gonna try it. It's not really practical anymore.

I use shield regeneration now instead of malice. Malice is still one of the best abilities in the game, but shield regen is better.
