This game is broken

I bought this game with high expations due to a good review on gamespot.  But boy am i disapointed :( I installed it on my computer and played it for a few hours and was haveing a great time playing it.  At the time I thought (cool, its about time a decent space strat game came out).  Next day I get home from work and was all excited to resume where I had left off.  Launched the game and bam! minidump.  I was like what the hell.  So I hop on the web to do a bit of research to see what the hell this minidump thing is.  I google it and it leads me to the forms here.  Then I find out I have to regester my game to even get a patch for the game I just bought.  No biggie right? NOT! I'm like "what the hell, I just paid good money for this game and now to even get a patch to fix this shit that I bought, I have to regester and give them all my personal info?" Some thing wrong with this! So ok fine, I regesterd the dam thing. Then I proced to find a link to DL the patch.  Hahaha yea right can you make it any harder to find a link?  So its been about 2 hours since I got home and tried to launch this game I bought yesterday.  Talk about a poor experince.  Finaly I get the patch DL and installed, run the game and.... yep minidump. Dosn't even launch.  Well I just wasted my free time after work! So next day I do a lot more reading and reasearch. Sounds like this is a big problem that many people are having and that its not the exact same place or reason that we are all getting this minidump error. (sound BROKEN to anyone) by this time I am so frustrated at wanting to just play the dam thing that I do an uninstall and reinstall.  (my computer is a bit older so it takes ruffly an hour to do this) I launch the game and.... Yeah!!! its works :) I play for a few hours tell bed time.  Next day.... yep you guessed it MINIDUMP.  What the Hell!!! This game is broken!!!!  Sorry Ironclad or whoever owns this pice of shit program you will not be getting any more of my money for your current or furture software!! not if this is how you run a company and suport your products!!  I have never posted a post like this on any form before.  The only reason I decided to post this time is becouse as a consumer that has purchaced many many computer games over the last 15 or so years I am seeing a trend in the industry.  More and more companies are releasing broken, or unfinished products and do little to nothing to make them work as intended.  We as consumers need to let them know this is not exceptiable. And the only way to do that is by letting them know we will not suport they products if they don't change.  And unfortunatly they only way to do that is by hitting there pocket book.

Just save your game occasionally. Minidumps don't really happen that often.

...Never had a mini dump and my computer is by far not the best out there...or by far the best out there when i bought it 4 years ago. My advise . Dont break any more mirrors cause u must have shitty luck, or on a more practice note....WAIT TILL PATCH 1.05. Besides yeah maybe it is bad treatment of the consumer, but what are you gonna do, go to E.A.

if nobody bought videogames from a company if they didn't work once or twice, I highly doubt there would still be a videogame market in today's world. You said it yourself; your computer is pretty old. This game works phenomonal on computers made within the last two years.

What specs is your computer? Do you have all the latest drivers? Your lashing out at Ironclad claiming they don't care about the consumer is uncalled for unjustified. Since release, Ironclad has constantly updated and maintained this game. They are already on patch patch number 4, 5 to be released soon and are already working on patch 1.1
What I'd suggest doing is saving the minidump into a zip file and sending it to ironclad with a save file so they are able to see what the problem is and maybe fix it. Assuming it is a problem on their end.

Ironclad is a company made up of gamers like yourself, don't forget that. Don't label them as a money hungry company. They are loyal to their fan-base and are always available on these forums giving support. They don't deserve what you said.

LOL

Well first of all, because of commie, assholes that pirate games, all companies have had to adapt and try to come up with ways to deal with the fact that they deserve to make money off of their work. Being required to register the game online is both un-obtrusive, and also somewhat effective at combating this. So quit your bitching.

Second. Get a better pc. I've only had about 1 minidump and it was an online game, 0 on solo. Even if I did have one on solo it wouldn't be a big deal because any idiot knows to backup/save their work. I doubt you are even 15 years old, let alone been playing/buying games for 15 years if you do not know this.

Lastly, if you expect people to actually read your shit, you should think back to what most middle-schoolers know. Use paragraphs. "Wall of text" is right, it hurts the eyes and almost no one will read it.

@Squibert2

You'll be also be happy to know that since you didn't READ BEFORE patching that your save-games prior to the patch will never again work and will always mini-dump! Saves from previous versions are NOT compatible.

READ BEFORE doing something/anything.

thanks,

the Monk

GO online

Do a survey of people who get crashes. Most happen when playing online. So for all you single players playing that game. Thats great the game doesnt crash for you. Try playing a few games online and see what happens then.

To minimize crashes, Restart the game after each game. Seems like stardock doesnt like people playing consecutive games. Many have posted restarting before, but its sad that you have to restart a game to minimize crashes.

Stardock should warn people to restart the game after each one to prevent crashes. That way they can blame their customers for not reading their warnings before playing the game.

Ok so many of you want to know my computer specs. I have a AMD 2100+ CPU, 2GB RAM, ATI Radion 9800 Pro with 256MB RAM, SB Audigy 2 ZS, and running Windows XP Pro.

Like I said it’s a bit older but more than meets the Min Requirements for this game. So for those that said "get a better/newer computer" you should insted, be telling Stardock/Ironclad that their min requirements are incorrect.

As for the frustration of finding a DL link for the patching I went back and looked again for a link on their home page. https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/ Sorry still don't see a button for it. Or directions to get to it. Doesn’t really matter though, anyone can Google and find the link. And yes I still do think it is BS to force a customer that just purchased one of your products to register the game to get ANY support for that product. You can't even DL patches to FIX the game that should already be working when you buy it, unless you do so. Don't get me wrong if I thought that I was the only one, or even just part of a small hand full of consumers that was having this problem I wouldn't be so upset. But as I stated earlyer its dose not appear to be a little or infrequent error.

Sorry about my original post not having paragraphs. Didn't realize I was back in college in constructive wrighting 101.

And for the rest of you who had nothing but criticism about my frustrated postb and no advice or anything positive to say about it. Put your self in my shoes. How would you feel if you purchased something that your were able to use once and then can't use it again. example (a TV that turned on but then the next time you tried, you find out you have to take it back to the store to get it fixed. But when you go there the repair man says "Sorry we are working on getting something to fix that with, but it will take a few months.")

Sorry for any typos miss spelling or any other grammatical error GEZZ.

Their would be loads of peeps wanting to help you its a very friendly if lively community

Look at the replies. lol, yeah real friendly. :(

This game has essentially zero copy-protection and it doesn't require you to keep the DVD in the drive in order to play it. Instead you need to enter your key to access the downloads from the official site. You're complaining about that?

No lol im not complaing about that. What I am complaining about is a "broken game" The hoops that you have to jump though to get this broken game to maybe work is a secondary moronic anoying thing.

thank you for at least responding to my post. wish you had some help with it. oh well.

People complain alot about "broken" games in general, but think about this. How many different types of systems do you think people are playing the average game on? The answer, when considering all the different vendors for pcs, ram, vid cards, etc, is at least tens of thousands of combinations. Almost every game I have ever played the early versions of has had problems. Thats just going to happen, you can't know all the problems you are going to encounter until the game is actually in the market.

Once again, in reference to anti-piracy, I think that the SINS model is about as unobtrusive as you can get. In fact I like it that only the game can only be registered once, and that you must register to get updates. (that are required because of the original flaws, nice combo there, lol) Whatever it takes to keep the theives out, I pay for my shit, and expect others to do the same.
