How do you patch Sins?

I followed the link from the Sins launcher app to update the game. I registered and provided my information and then downloaded the patch. The patch however is an aspx file that I cannot figure out how to run. It just simply opens up a notepad document full of gibberish. When reading the manual, it says I have to use Stardock's Impulse software which is included on the disk. I cannot find this software on the disk nor at Stardocks website. So, how exactly are you suppose to patch this game? This is the first time in 15 years of PC gaming that I haven't been able to figure out how to patch a game in 10 minutes.

Either go to: https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/update and download the patch there or you can go to My Account Info >> Registrations and click the second download link by your SoaSE info

Sigh my post has vanished

There are two ways to get the patch that I know of.

A: Go to https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/update and click download

B: Click My Account >>> Registrations and click on the second download link(I think this only works if you have a sins CD Key Registered to this account

I have already done both of those things. What I download is an aspx file from that link. When I click on that file it opens up as a word document.

Once I have the "patch" how do I actually install the file? Do I need an additional piece of software installed such as Microsoft .Net installed?

Sounds like your browser isn't handling the mimetypes properly. The download button on the update page should give you the patch executable.

Have you tried renaming it to a .exe file and running it?

You do need to run it after you download it if you're using the standalone patch (not via SDC/Impulse).
