Trying to log into Ironclad Multiplayer

Man logging into Ironclad online is so stinking HARD!!  X-(  X-(

Look, I just purchased the game. Went through hell to get registerd.  Now I try to go onto Ironclad online to see the multiplayer and general chat area.

The problem is that I can't! X-(

Everytime I put in my username which is Viewpoint and my password the damn thing freezes. It just stinking freezes.  I turned off all my antivirus and anti-spyware programs and I still can't log into Ironclad online! It freezes on me all the time.

Look some guy from Ironclad, Stardock, or whatever needs to get me some ideas on this stinking freeze problem with Ironclad online multiplayer. Don't get a response, I'm putting this game on E-Bay and I'm going back to Supreme Commander. At least that got an online system that stinking works.

Man this blows!!!  :(

Try running the game in Windowed mode to see if it pops anything up in the background. I find often that Windows pops up "Do you want to give this program permission" boxes in the background.

Did you update the game to 1.04?

If you ask a bit nicer, and keep the hysterics to a minimum, chances are more people will be willing to help.

What do you mean by that? I'm running the game on Windows XP?

I upgraded the game to 1.04. I did that already

Also I'm very frustrated over this. Not to be so mean but after spending 2 hours on this game to get it to work of course I be frustrated.

In the graphics options, under the resolution selection there's a check box to run the game windowed. It will make it easy to see if anything pops up in the background.

Windows has its own built in firewall type of thing, so it can ask for permission to allow a program you're running to connect to the 'net.

I would say this is the most likely scenario.

He means go to The Video section of the Options screen, and check the "Use Windowed Mode" box. The game will then run in a reduced size like any other program, rather than full screen, and you can see if your firewall is trying to ask for permission to let it through when you use ICO.

I can understand if you're frustrated, and I am sorry about that. But if you would like help from others (remember, most people who post here are just game players like you, and not affiliated with Stardock or Ironclad), yelling about it won't help much. After all, I don't personally have much to lose if your game doesn't work, and I get more satisfaction from helping people that are even tempered. I have to help enough people daily at my office who aren't nice, but at least I'm getting paid for that!

Fortunately there are people like Annatar around, who love helping people even if they're smarmy. :)

And kryo!  ;)

Kryo sounds right. This is a standard issue.  If you are unable to find the windowed mode option, I have an easy shortcut for you.  Press CTRL+Shift+Tab.  Move your window out of the way and look for that nasty little firewall pop up and confirm that everything ok.  You might get a few of these, depending on your program. After that just CTRL+Shift+Tab yourself back into the game and join us on ICO!

Annatar11, Kyro, Craig Fraser:

Thanks a lot for the information. I tried it and I found out it was my Norton Antivirus that was preventing me from logging onto Ironclad Online. Thanks a lot for your help. I fixed the Norton problem and now I can log in. A BIG THANK YOU :)

Hollow Man:

Look, there are thousands of people here. If you don't want to help then buzz off. If you can't take criticism then buzz off. This is a democratic society. By the time you drop dead of old age, you will have been criticized a trillion times. So don't come here with you crap. ]

Actually isn't true for the forums ;) I know you're new to the forums, but the community here is a bit different in that even though you won't be disciplined by the moderators for rudeness (unless it becomes a major habit), it's pretty frowned upon by the general community. It's fairly common here to see rude posts get flamed a bit. You should also understand that while it may be your first post and you feel justified in your tone, those of us who've been on the forums for months see this a lot, and we have different tolerances for it. It's worse, usually, when the problem is user-side and they go off ranting about how Sins/IC/SD sucks (and believe me, there were posts way worse than yours about stuff that wasn't their fault :P). So, it gets tiring when you keep seeing it over and over to the point where some are pretty much ready to say screw it :P

Not bashing you, just explaining how the community became shaped ;)

Annatar, thank you for the back up.

Viewpoint, I'm glad that your game now works. I'm sorry that you were annoyed and perhaps misinterpreted my intentions by what I said, but I believe Annatar summarized my feelings pretty well. Perhaps as time goes on, you're learn that it's not a sign of weakness to apologize when at fault. This was a case where this was not an Ironclad problem, yet, you mistakenly assumed it was their online system that was the issue (and bashed them 'round a bit for it).

Hopefully you've also learned something; I can guarantee this will not be the last time that a firewall prevents you from playing a game because it's blocked off the appropriate ports.

Look I'm not here to drag this on. However your asinine response has just compelled me to answer to your arrogant shit.

Apologize for what? I don't have anything to apologize. Absolutely nothing to apologize. I came here to ask a simple question and your arrogant self came in with a condenscending remark. You come to me with some stereotype that I'm just some uneducated person who dosen't know anything. Well, let me give you a little bit of advice. Just because people ask questions does not make them dumb. As a matter of fact people that ask questions are the ones that acutally have the better opportunity to expand their knowledge on whatever subject they are interested in. Therefore don't patronize me with your stupid quotes. I did not ask for your response.

Again consider why such a game such as Sins of A Solar Empire sold a lot of games and when you go online to play against others it only has 200 people at the maximum? Consider why other RTS games, such as Age of Empires, Starcraft, C&C, Supreme Commander and others have way more members in its forums and more people playing online? Why? Because when people come to the forums, they don't have to worry about arrogant @SSholes such as yourself come in with condenscending remarks.

Hopefully, I learned something? Learn what. You the one that needs to learn something. Leran how to communicate. Get a book on communication and see how you address people. And learn how to take criticism. Just because some guy who comes in maybe a "noob" on a game does not make him dumb.

Get off your high horse before someone your run into has the gall to break the legs of your horse and you come tumbling down.

Most people who buy Sins do so to play offline and probably never even set eyes on the forum. Additionally those 'big name' games have sold orders of magnitude more copies.

It would do well for everyone to try and be a little more polite, though. More flies with honey than vinegar, say something nice or nothing at all, like attitudes beget like, insert other appropriate platitude here, and so forth.

Well, looks like everyone can play the game  - thats what really matters :)

Consider this post....LOCKED.
