Hey Monk , dont listen to fools like viewpoint. You have been very helpful to the community and im sure the people who matter - Ironclad and Stardock are very appreciative. I sympathesise actually with your situation where you are an expert in your field but you have to communicate in lay-speak to the masses. I study Dentistry where Im actually trained to communicate and empathise with lay people , and its suprisingly a very difficult skill. Explaining things to colleagues in the same field is so much easier. Its ironic how viewpoint talks of people having limitations in skills , then just blurts how you should learn people skills.
You know let me emphazise a few points.
1. I never said that the_Monk did not provide a valuable help to the forums here. What I'm saying is that experts such as the_Monk and Hollow Man, albeit donating their valueable time and expertise with no pay are arrogant people that berate the new player. They don't have to berate people when the same questions about the game comes up. They can be understanding that some of the people who come here for help don't have one solitary f***** clue what they are doing. Not everyone here is a computer expert. That is why I say provide direct links so that new person can get the informatin quick and make sure it is easy to understand. That is all I'm saying here.
2. In regards to your quote about being able to communicate to people in layman's terms, here is my quote to the_Monk about this....
Well if this..what..the_Monk guy is suposed to be "oh so damn helpful" then why don't you give the person a damn direct link to the site? Also why don't you explain to that individual in layman's terms on what he needs to do? No he does not do that but comes in with some asinie respone of "oh got to read first". Well listen? What if he can't find the information? What if he dosen't know where exactly to find information? Did pricks such as the "oh so almighty the_Monk" ever take that into consideration? You put the link on the response so that person can immediately go to it and find information. That is what you do. You don't insult the person with stupid comments and talk to the person as if he is some dummy.
Now what did I say in that passage P5yy? I told him to try to explain in layman's terms to people who have questions about the game. I said that in my passage. In other words I kindly request that you to read what I
acutally said before you comment on what I said.
3. You claim you study Dentistry. Well, there are people here who study the health field as well. Therefore, when going into forums don't claim that you are the only person who do what you actually do.
the_Monk:
Obviously you have no idea how many (damn near 100 people now) I've invited onto my personal TeamSpeak server and given of my personal and professional time to get them hosting when they were confronted with unique networking issues I couldn't put into my guide or it wouldn't have been applicable to all.
I've been patient to the tune of several hundered un-paid hours, the least you could have done was a damn forum search!
Good day!
Again, I never said that you did not help anyone. When did I say this? What I'm saying is that don't berate people. All I'm saying that assume you are talking to someone who knows nothing about the game, needs help and comes to the forums for help. You never know this guy could have logged on the first time. How on earth will he know how to do a search? Better yet new threads are being developed everyday. What happens if you thread is all the way down the list? Do you think that one frustrated player comes here and he wants to shuffle through 500 or so entries to find what he needs help on? No. That is why I say provide a direct link. Also don't make the guy feel stupid if he ask a question? What maybe the trillionth time you were asked a question about SINS could maybe the the first time that new person is asking the same question.
Don't take it out on him if he does not understand. Also don't berate him if he can't understand the computer terminology and jargon that is so heavily used here.
Also put it in layman's terms. That is all I'm saying. You, Hollow Man and others are too condenscending, berating and insulting of new members. You got to be patient.
New people will be comming everyday. So of course the same questions will be asked everyday. There is not need to berate or insult the the person's intelligence who may not know or how to access the information you provided. Also don't berate the person if he does not understand the information you provided or have difficulty applying it.
2. You claim you put in hundreds of unpaid professional hours on this site. Okay you did. Well this is a forum, whatever information you volounteer is going to be altruistic. If you are so worried about "unpaid professional hours" than what is your ulterior motive? That is something that should be understood.

To Ironclad and Stardock officialsBy no means I'm not trying to start a flame war. Also by no means I'm trying to cut people down such as the_Monk and Hollow man for donating their valuable time in helping others enjoy what I consider a phenomenal game. I'm only criticizing them for berating players and having smart remarks when a person comes to the forum with technical problems. I'm just voicing my concerns that such a fun game like Sins of A Solar Empire, have so many diffuculties in hosting a game, joining a game, compatabilty issues, lag issues, registration issues and the like.
I go to Ironclad online and there are a lot of frustrated people online. Heck at one point I was frustrated and came to the forums here for help. I got the help that I needed and I'm satisfied with it. Now, when I go to Ironclad online, half the people can't host a game and then another half of people can't join a game. So now you got a bunch of people begging other people to host a game and others want to join a game. This leads basically to no competitive games being played. That gets very frustrating. How can Ironclad Online host a bustling online multiplayer gaming community when some people can't host, some people can't register and some people can't join? Of course you going to get frustration. And enough frustration can cause that new fan not to come back and take his chances on other RTS games.
When I went to Ironclad online, I asked some of the people why they can't host, or they can't join. I hear things about ports, anitspyware programs, anitvirus programs and the like. I also hear rumors that Ironclad online is not a legitimate server because the host, if he can host, acts as his/her own server when he/she hosts a game.
Now I'm not a computer expert by any means. Additonally, I'm not as computer saavy as some of you are. However, given this rumor that the host, if he can host is his own server on Ironclad Online is true, then is it true the Ironclad Online is not a legitimate multiplayer server to run Sins of A Solar Empire? Is this the reason besides port problems, and computer security problems of why people can't host or join a game?
Now given what I hear that the host acts as its own server on Ironclad Online to play a multiplayer game is true, than what is the deal with Ironclad games not having a legitimate server? So you are telling me that with all the high and positive critical acclaim of this gam, you guys at Ironclad Games can't afford a legitimate server to make it easier for the gamer to host or join a multiplayer game on Ironclad Online to play Sins of a Solar Empire? That is downright crazy and cheap of you guys.
As stated earlier, I'm not a computer expert. However, if you guys at Stardock and Ironclad Games can't get a legitimate server, like the makers of other RTS games that have legitimate servers that are easy to host and to join, then why waste time having a multiplayer server at all? You guys at Ironclad games can't take a small portion of your profits and allocate it to a legitimate server which eliminates or at least reduce the difficulties of hosting and joing a game? Wow that is very dissappointing.
In all, it is very sad that I come to Ironclad Online, and having people who play as many as 50 or more games begging a noob such as me to host a game. You guys at Ironclad Games and Stardock Publishers need to remedy this problem. If you guys can't remedy this hosting problem, and this rumor that the host is his/her own server, because Ironclad Online is not a legitimate server is true, then the multiplayer community will never grow beyond the 250 maximum people that I hear are on at one time.
Basically if it is true that the host has to act as a server than fix this problem so the host dosen't have to act as his own server, which in turn can solve a lot of difficulties that Ironclad Online has.
