Z Axis control broken in 1.05?

I've been playing 1.05 for a couple of days now, and I can't seem to configure the Z-axis control any more or make it work in-game. I looked over all the patch notes I could find and found no mention of any changes to it - is this a known issue?

Other than that, I can say stability is greatly improved. Thanks for the patch!

Any word on this? I just started a 1.05 game and notice that z-axis control is missing as well - I was accustomed to using the z-axis to keep carrier cruisers out of harms way and sorely miss its presence.

I have emailed Stardock about this issue, but they seem to be avoiding it. I payed for this product, and I demand an answer back as to why an advertised feature is not working. I payed for 3D movement, and I expect it back.

pls have this fixed, bring the z axis movement back so my carriers can park some else where and let the fighters do the work towards heavily defended areas.

tnx.

I never heard anyone complaining about z-axis control, though I'm sure most don't care either way. Was it causing a problem in multiplayer? I'm just mystified over why it suddenly disappeared.

You should contact IC support about in-game issues. Our guys only handle accounts, installation, etc.

It does seem to have been removed though, but only the devs could say why.

Hey folks,

It looks like this was a mistake that made it through testing, it should be back in 1.1.

Is there any way to roll back my game version to 1.04? (I still have the exe for 1.04) I was about to give this game another proper go, but I don't really want to play a bugged version, nor do I want to wait till 1.1.

Email from Ironclad:

Hi,

Z-Axis control was removed for gameplay reasons a few patches ago. I'm sorry for the inconvienence.

Well, we're getting mixed messages, aren't we?

Aww oh no. I went to go do some tactic testing... was it removed because weapon arcs on ships are mostly/almost all front/sides/back and no up/down?

Damn I wonder if I was exploiting the game instead of creating new tactics... :/ Please put it back, or maybe adjust code so that the ships roll so that their side banks point up/down or something. It makes sense in the 3d of space... but I suppose in space I wouldn't create a ship that left those arcs empty either... I'll live with whatever dev choices the team makes but would be happier with 3d in.

My apologies, I had thought this was a mistake, but apparently it was removed because it was exploitable in multiplayer.   Jamie's answer was the correct one, sorry.

Please try and fix it if you can. I know you probably can't, but remember that you add a whole level of realism with 3D movement, and that without it all you get is Sword of the Stars or Star Trek: Armada. In other words, a top down shooter.

wait WTF. exploitable in multiplayer! THAT WAS THE ENTIRE POINT! to add a level of depth and strategy!

Wait so MODDERS wont be able to access Z axis control either!

sorry but would somebody tell me what the key combo for the z-axis was...i saw it in a post a long while back and havent been able to find it (yes i know it dosent work now)

It was the D-key, the same hot-key used for normal movement. It's just that you pressed the key once to get the movement cursor, then pressed it again and held it, which locked the movement on the X and Y and redirected your mouse's movements to the Z, so you could move the point way up or down.

Hovering far above a planet was the best place for my carrier cruisers in SP.

I used z-axis for fun mostly, you could split fleets in really aesthetic ways with it -- I never found it exploitable nor heard anyone on the forums complaining about it, pretty lame that it was removed.

I would like Z-axis control back also - I have always found games such as Sins and other space-based RTS or 4x games to be better with z-axis control because of the realism and gameplay options that it provides.

i never even knew it existed, but now i want to use it >:(

space= 3d movement please put it back it was fun to have carriers far away and high above planets for safety

that sux. I would at least have hoped for an option!
One of the reasons I got this over other product was the 3D movement.
I do agree that it would currently be an exploit in multiplayer, however thats only because the game needs to revert to a true 3D form for planet defence\structures, mines etc and AI movement + the planet planes.

I can only hope that they will do things properly in the expansion or another patch.
They have removed a lot of good features for the sake of the layman.

orbiting planets
moons
Z-axis
sligshotting
solar system orbits
no phase lanes- open movement.
newtonian ship movement

Its almost worth attempting to get hands on the alpha for some interesting "space like"
gameplay.

I dream of the "realistic" option in the game that brings back all of the above
