This is my second post asking for advice regarding some of the odder bits of SoaSE. Personally I love the game, to the point that I would much rather play this than the underwhelming GTA4, but I've encountered two irritating bugs now that have stopped me in my tracks. The first was solved simply by shutting every other application on the computer down before playing it, but the second is far odder.

I am, of course, talking about the autoplacement of structures.

Given that I am playing the game through map by map, from smallest to largest, this did not become a factor until one of the last missions on the small set, Derelict. During this game I noticed that the tactical grid had disappeared around my planet and that whenever I wanted to place a structure, any structure, the computer would decide for me. I could not understand why as I had not turned on (or off) any such ability, and cannot find a button anyway to take me back to normal. Given that I cannot now place my turrets in a sensible manner I have had to stop playing as any enemy attack on a planet with no fleet almost certainly succeeds as often my defences are literally on the other side of the planet.
