So my first mp match, had a tec ally and was up against 2 advents.  Started out ok but eventually he brought in a mothership with 20 or so illuminators and i got killed very quickly.  The mothership used the restore shield ability and wouldn't die.  What should i do?

Heavy cruisers are good at taking out the illuminators but also u will need a bigish fleet to take out a cap with that sort of escort as they have very good range and are quite powerful.

It depends on what race you were

If you were TEC, the answer is Flak, armor upgrades, health upgrades, combined with hoshikos if possible. In general, TEC has to outnumber the Advent to stand a chance.

Vasari can get enough Assailants early that they can effectively counter Advent. The nanite attack the evacuator has is a great counter to advent abusing shields. You can micro target the enemy cap and take it out very effectively.

Advent should be doing illums vs. illums. I know that's just rock vs. rock, but that's all I've seen. What's key is pickin the right moment to get guardians, keeping ur shiels higher than your opponents, and if possible, getting a halcyon to accompany ur mothership

These are my early game answers. You said 20 illums so I'm figuring you were rushed and this was early game.

Since its your first mp game , I think my advice would be to try to search for guides on build orders and watch replays and stuff to see how people start.

I dont theres any point in discussing how to use TECs strength to adapt to the strengths of Advent ,before you have nailed down the basics.

Remeber to overpower advent as quickly as possible to avoid illums period. Illums are the bane of all mp existence now.

I know the feeling. Don't get discouraged Advent are still beatable. It just a strategy of spamming and early flt micro management. Its not the funnest game I've played of sins, but you can beat good to moderate Advent players. Choose a small map. Melting Point or one of the small to tiny maps for your best chance. Be Aggressive Be Aggressive Be aggressive Whether you go sova rush or a more conventional attack. Be Relentless If you can get a steady stream of reinforcements pumping in to the fight Don't shy away from the fight. Even if you just have jump out for a min to let some of those reinforcements catch up. If he sends his cap to your hw IE you should be scouting and have a little for warning. Upgrade the planet health it takes 1 cap forever to bomb a 6000 health planet. While mixing it up leaving 1 in 3 of your reinforcements at your hw.(If its being attacked) While you kill every frig then the frig factory and bomb hw. This in no way is a guaranteed victory. You have to practice. Use all the TEC s abilities to your advantage. IE Cluster warheads, missile research, armor, health, and shield upgrades.Unfortunately you must spam and spam fast. What ever ship you or strategy you deside on SPAM it HARD. Good luck hope I helped out.

Thanks for all the help, i was TEC btw thats all i've played so far. And i did beat three hard AI so i do understand the basics. I guess thats what i've been doing wrong, i always build up a big fleet which takes a while before i attack. And i attack the cap ship first. I'll try out the spamming. tyty
