TEC fleet critiques

I have been playing sins off and on for a few months.  I have played several games and usually my fleets (TEC) usually end up looking like this:

Early Game - Kol Battleship, 15-20 light frigates, 5-10 LRM frigate, 5 Support carriers (cruisers with squadrons)

Mid Game - Kol Battleship, 20 - 30 light frigates, 10-15 LRM frigates, 5 Support carriers, 10 Flak frigates, 2 Command  Cruisers, 2 Repair Cruisers     - a seperate fleet(s) of 10 siege frigates

Late Game - Kol Battleship, 30 - 40 light frigates, 15-20 LRM frigates, 5 - 10 Support carriers, 10 - 15 Flak frigates, 2 Command Cruisers, 2 Repair cruisers, 10 Heavy Cruisers   - a seperate fleet(s) of 10-20 siege frigates

The fleets above are my main fleets, I'll usually also have (depending on the size of the game) a few other slightly smaller fleets with either a Kol Battleship, Carrier, or a Dreadnought.  Usually only one cap ship per fleet but sometimes I vary it.  Anyone else have similar strategies, improvement ideas?

I forgot to mention on the support carriers I usually go for a mix of bomber and figher squadrons. Between cap ships and the support carriers I usually have 10-15 of bomber and fighter squadrons (around 30).

I've noticed most other players are favoring the heavier ships.

a fleet of mostly LRMs and Kodiacs would probably whipe the ground with that fleet at the same expense level.

Fleets are always dependent on what your enemy has, so you have to scout ahead.

My only advice is switch the numbers for light frigs and LRMs - many more LRMs to light frig ratio... unless he's massing support ships (the AI)

I also tend to move away from light frigs when I get heavy cruisers, but they still have some use.

Just the way I roll - I may be wrong

I only really use cobalts early game to help my Kol take out a few places, by the time I get LRM's, cobalts have run their course. One suggestion I have is to add another capital ship to your main fleet, early game two Kol's will stop most everything in its tracks, and later on, when you've got the credits to spare, a Kol/Dunov is pretty powerful, even just at level 4. I also might add a few more carriers, and use the Cap ships to focus fire on the Flak ships while I have my Fighter/Bombers take out support in prep to take out their caps. Really, there are a hundred different ways to build a good fleet, and it matters more what your opponent is massing, the only guaranteed ships are Caps and Hoshinkos, which are always useful.

Spamming LRM frigates is a pretty effective way. Also, I always get the Akkan Battlecruiser as my free capital ship. It boosts your fleet considerably and it makes colonizing a breeze, as the capital ships regenerate anti-matter very quickly.

I used to think that the Kodiak was pretty powerful, but now I've realised its only useful for absorbing damage on the front line. Their autocannons are very weak, and a similarly-priced swarm of Javelin LRMs will do vastly more damage. Just use the few Kodiaks that you do have to keep the Javelins out of trouble, and you're set to go.

Hi!
my fleets (TEC) usually end up looking like this:
...
End of quote

I used to play TEC about the way you described, but in the recent game I produced only about 10 light fregates, the rest (~30 ships) was long range and two capitals (colony and planet-killer dread). Removing the first AI that used mostly light fregates was such a simple task I've been astonished. I've lost only about 4 LFs and two LRMs, AI lost everything (level 4 cap ship, ~25 light fregates, 10 LRMs, another level 1 cap and the game).

The third AI was a bit tougher. It had already repair ships and carriers in significant numbers, but I had at that time ~8 repair ships, 6 flak ships and 4 cap's, everything (armor, attack, hull) at level 2-4. It was simply no match for my mostly-LRM fleet.

Despite I had better starts, was no previous game so easy. IMO that's just because in this one I've had so many LRMs, that are best suiterd for removing light fregates AIs tend to spam early. After I'm established in twice the territory, is the rest just a matter of execution.

Actually I go with Marza dreadnaught rather than Kol most of the time The ability to kill from long range and bomb planets works wonders.

Thanks to you guys(or girls) I realize know that my old strategies are junk(luckily I never posted them) So thanks to you for helping me think up new strategies.

The Marza is the best for destroying enemy fleets (and planets) :CONGRAT:
Also, you might like an AKKAN or two (one in every fleet) :)
(and of course, 700 LRMs, do dee dooo)... :NOTSURE:
