Question about planetary rings

I saw in some of the beta picture planetary rings... I have not noticed those in game. Is my copied messed up, does it just happen randomly, or did they take them out. I love the way they look and I just wanted to know.

You mean planetary ring like Saturn? They spawn ramdomly. Its quite rare. Maybe some1 can bring in some more precision?

I'd say I've seen maybe between one and two dozen planets with rings; they look nice but I always find myself reluctant to build within the rings :LOL:


I've seen them on all planet types, but yeah they're pretty rare. I think they look best on Terran worlds, but ice worlds are sweet too.

First go into your options menu and go to effects. In the list of options you can 'checkmark' there should be one that saise "show planet rings" make sure it is checked off and if it is the rings around planets should spawn randomly but they are very rare. On a 50 planet game about 3 or 4 had rings.

My empire right now spans about 35 actual planets, and none of them have rings, but I'll check the option to see if its on.

The option is definately turned on, and out of 55 planets, I got no rings at all... Played another map, but I've only explored around 30, but still no rings.

That not important anyway: they just look nice.

And I think they are nice on ANY planet.

Well they are pretty rare. I was making a personal mod and was messing with the terran planet file and I came across the ring spawn chance and it say's 1% chance of spawning. So yea there rare. Gas Gaints have a much higher spawn chance

An mod that amplify the ring spawn rate would be nice (and quite easy to make!). Some1 want to devote a couple minute of is life to do this?

Ironically enough, its been almost 2 months since my last post, but I still have no rings. I'm interested in what Harvatos said. Any way to increase the chance of rings?

Maybe you just have to keep playing.

You'll get one some day and they look awesome,especially Ice planet with it.

If you go into the planet .entity files, the spawn rate for rings is near the bottom, I think. (You'll need the text versions of those files if you don't have them in any mods. As such, you'll have to wait 'til the Forge Tools are updated to use with the beta patch.)
