This is something I'd like to know as well... I've been wondering what exactly, it means and how one gets it for a bit now

click the thumbs up icon at the bottom left hand corner of the person you want to give karma's post

Karma is like a thanks for the help button where you can leave a nice comment for someone if they were nice and helped you so if one of the sins team is really helpful for example give them some karma to say thanks.

Does the SoSE forum share the same off-topic area as GC2? I don't check other Stardock forums, so the OP seems to me to ask how you give negative "karma" to a user.

I'm guessing that the report button isn't the same thing b/c AFAIK that just puts an item on a moderator's task list.

p.s. I have to mention that despite having used that thumbs-up button quite a few times, I have some discomfort with using a religiously significant term like that for what amounts to forum popularity polling.

Yup. It gets very confusing at times, because while a lot of GC2 players seem to realize they're cross posting, most SoaSE players don't. These days I only read the GC2 forums, because I'm still playing that game while Sins is collecting dust, so it's interesting to occasionally be reminded of its existence.

Actually the report button does a lot more than this.

At one point Kryo mentioned that "reporting" a post sends emails to no less than 20 Stardockians and is taken as a very serious matter.

I mention this because I don't think this has been stressed enough, but "reporting" a post merely because you don't happen to get along with someone is more likely to get yourself into trouble than it is the person you're reporting.

My understanding is that "reporting" a post should be reserved for truly offensive or abusive content. It's like a fire alarm, if you pull it, there damn well better be a fire.

Actually, the report button sends emails to about 20 people. Thus the warning of consequences for frivolous reports.

Whoa, really? I've used it to report spammers. Didn't realize that I myself was spamming when I did it!

That said, I despise spammers, as I'm sure most people do. So what exactly is considered report-worthy?

Spambots, pirate links, obscene images, etc. Things that require an obvious and immediate action which anyone with mod power can deal with. If it's something less concrete though that needs to be investigated and doesn't require action right away (another user making accusations against you, things that may take a warning with action depending on if they've gotten in trouble before, etc), it'd be preferable to just PM me.
