triggered/scripted events, please?

The one thing I would LOVE to see in SINS that might not be too hard to implement would be events.

Events would trigger either on game time or game stats (# planets colonized, tech level reached, cash, etc.)

Basic examples of events:
Wormhole appears/disappears: e.g. connecting two stars that are otherwise kept seperate (or are too far apart to travel in any meaningful time frame)
Star/planet creation/destruction: imagine your home system going nova at some point in the game, forcing you to fight for distant planets/stars
NPC/ship/fleet spawning: e.g. massively hostile alien invasion that forces players to temporarily ally to fight off, or a "rogue" ship that is racing through the galaxy w/massive bounty to the player that kills it

I believe this is all that's really needed to enable the mapping/mod community to create awesome single player and co-op campaigns.  E.g.:

nanotech gone awry is spreading from planet to planet, destroying everything... can you expand fast enough before it wipes you out?

Has this been proposed? Is there any ability to do this currently?

I looked for information on how they did the tutorials because they seem to have the most scripted event-type actions but couldn't find anything that we can access ourselves. Through GalaxyForge, maybe?

I would hazard a guess that some of that stuff *MIGHT* be coming available when Ironclad releases the expansion pack with the campaign in it. It depends on whether those complexities can be reached
