Help! What can I do to reduce my cpu load...

I have a p4 3.06mhz system, but recently a gig ram stick died and now I'm stuck with only a half gig.  Mind you it's on XP, but on larger MP maps I cause game lag and am occasionally even getting kicked for it.  Most of the time I do the honourable thing and drop if it's ruining it for everyone... I have all setttings on lowest for graphics.  Does turning off music help?  The UI even?  I could learn to play without it if I knew others would benefit.  I'm going to get another ram upgrade asap but this is a little frustrating.

Reducing CPU load really wouldn't help at all when your issue is having very little RAM. So I'd just step up the priority on those new parts.

...Frustrating? Do u expect a miracle? On my pc Sins can take almost a GB, there's a lot going on. Ram is dirt cheap now, suck it up and purchase 2gb.

You can reduce your computers' memory load by disabling unnecessary programs and services. Sites like Tweakguides and Black viper have some useful guides, however there is a small change to screw up your computer..

Its not so safe but some times you can overclock ur system, but it would be better to just buy new RAM.

*sigh* Yeah I kind of figured.. and I know you're all right. I was just hoping there was something I'm missing.. I'm a old school power user, believe me I know how to deal with TSRs and keep my system clean running. Thanks anyway :)

you were originally running with 1.5 GB? Get 2 1GB sticks this time so you can run in dual-channel and 1T.
