newb question: how do I make inter-system jumps?

how do I make inter-system jumps, what am I missing?

Hi I've been playing this game for a week or so now, but I still haven't managed how to get my ships to jump from one system to another.

Scenario: 5-system game. I'm kicking arse all over one system, but see there are planets colonised by other civs and scouts turning u from who knows where. Why is that? I look for phase lanes, can't see 'em, I send my ships to the sun and try right clicking to send them other stars, but it doesn't work. Do I have to unlick tech or something?

You need long range jump tech, then you'll be able to travel from star to star.

To expand a little, once you get long range jump tech you can warp from any star to any other star, there are no jump lanes you have to use for interstellar travel.

Yes as has been pointed out you need to research (depending on the race you chose): Long Range Jumps or Distance Visualization. You might also want to keep in mind that wormholes will sometimes interconnect star systems and you will need to research the associated race's worm hole tech. Hope this helps.

It's also worth mentioning that some maps don't give you access to you primary star, in which case worm holes are the only way to get around. You have to research that ability as well.
