frustrating game speed, unplayable. (pausing,freezing)

i am quite mystified as to what is going on, alow me to explain....

the game installs and loads no problem, game menus open as quickly as you can click them, the background animation works fine but the second i go to actualy play it falls flat on its face.

the game freezes if i have the resolution at anything other than 1024x768 and even then every 10 seconds or so theres a 1 second pause. i'm not sure what to do now any ideas?

pc;

AMD 64 x2 5000+
2gb ram
nvidia 8600 gt 256mb
vista
19" wide lcd.

all drivers are upto date and i have the 1.05 patch installed on the game.

any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Unfortunely you will probably have to live with it (at least for now). As great as the game is these issues don't seem to be going away. I've had the game since the day of official release. With the initial release these problems existed, although not to such a great extent, and have gotten worse with each patch. My system also exceeds the mins but that doesn't seem to matter. Actually I can play the game on my old laptop and it is just as fast as my desktop. Go figure, I love the game but especially since the 1.05 patch it is becoming less and less playable. Support is great here but it seems that everyone is just blaming our hardware and ignoring this playability issue. I disagree with the hardware issue but will just get blasted for saying anything. I routinely see framerates of 2 FPS, and excessive lag. My system is also up to date with all drivers and everthing is running smoothly in all programs but this one.

What driver versions do you have, exactly? If you use windows update or the manufacturer's site rather than nvidia.com, it's likely they're not the newest at all.

I had the same problem before kept stopping or locking up right after I would click on something, so I put it in window mode and have not had a freeze or crash at all(I moved the window mode till it left a small amount of the desktop showing about 1/8 of a inch showing and put the task bar at hide) I have played over 10 strait hours with no problems running it at max settings

P4 3 ghz
1 gig ram
Gf 6200 256mb vid card

My system specs are as follows:
HP A6303W computer, I have upgraded to 3 gig of ram, running Vista 32 bit OS, Installed GeForce 8500GT with 512 meg video ram, this is an Intel E2160 Dual core @ 1.6GHZ, Acer AL2016W monitor.
I have installed all the lastest NVida drivers from the NVidia website - GeForce 175 ver 175.16, in addition I have gone to all component manufacturer website and updated all drivers as needed.
Now I know this is not an optimum system but it far exceeds all specs and I really feel I should have better performance. I tried the window mode and it made no change at all.

You aren't going for the epic 10-way wars with huge fleets, are you? It looks to me that the processor is the weak point there.

it bombs in window mode too huge pauses i have even got through the first training section yet its that bad. so no epic wars only epic disapointment and disgust.

i get this weird thing, where it will be fine at over 60 fps, then suddenly it gets really slow and drop to around 10-20 fps. id guess there'd be around 60 ships in a battle, but thats not exactly massive. it doesnt feel right though, theres something about the way it feels that says something wrong...

im running an 8800gtx oc'd, e6600 3.4, 4 gig ram and vista x64
