Modding Question

Has anyone tried removing all of the capital ships and making them into cruisers, or removing any of one classification of ship for that matter? I was thinking of making all the capital ships into cruisers, and keep 5 support ships as frigates. But I dont want to go through the work of removing and re-classifying ships if its not possible.

you can do that but i dont know if the game will work without the Caps or you plan to replace them?
other than that you can replace the cruisers or whatever ship you want with the caps without remodeling

yes that is possible as Danman put capitals as cruisers in one of his new races.
it is also possible to remove one or more caps from being buildable ingame...
in fact the one of the examples the tutorial(the one that comes with the mod tools) uses when explaining how to mod is removing caps...

I plan to have one, maybe two cap ships per race. Sort of a fleet command ship. i just wanted to make sure there was no difference in how the cap ship files was set up compared to the frigate files. I didn't see any difference, just wanted to make sure.

Also, in Uzzi's Sins Plus: the TEC have the derelict KOL battleships, Derelict Carriers, and the Akkan as cruisers (you just have to put them into the cruiser slots so that you can build them)...

It's all easy to do...

Just copy a frigate entity that somewhat matches the type of ship it is (for less work in converting), and copy over as many of the stats as will copy over, into the new file...
