New ships for 1.1 too optimistic?

its a secret. its for them to know and for us to find out.

new ships would be nice or maybe a different ability research tech?

I'd suggest it's highly unlikely. Not too many major computer games introduce new and significant units in a patch. That's something that usually gets reserved for an expansion pack.

It's a patch, not an expansion. They generally don't add entirely new things in patches. They fix exiting ones.

All we're hoping for in 1.1 is that they fix the hosting issues, further reduce the number of minidumps, and enable auto-downloading for Galaxy Forge-made custom maps.

I would like to see, if not new ships, some unique abilities added to the smaller vessels.

LRM frigates for instance could, after research, have a missile burst ability for instance that would fire a large amount of missiles but prevent the ship from firing for a while after used.

Things like that to make even the basic frigates more useful in the late game.

i just want a little more depth in terms of what ships i can build, like a strike carrier, or another heavy cruiser, or gunships, its just ive played a lot of sins, some of the ships look bad(kodiak) and there arent enough good ones, i know there are mods but to be honest the good ones look a long way off.

Yes, IMO the rule for patching is:
1) Fix game breaking exploits that affect everyone (not any that I know of now).
2) Try to solve networking/minidump etc crashes that prevent people from playing and ruin games.
3)Balancing the game properly so all sides are as unique as possible without anyone being overly strong (although this and 2 are fairly interchangeable depending on the difficulty, both are important though).
4)Graphical effects.
5) New stuff i.e. ships/techs/planets/etc.

A bug free balanced game is better than a buggy game where everyone just plays one faction, regardless of the number of ships or the shininess of the graphics. Besides, for new ships to be added, first they need to balanced properly (otherwise they will either never be used, or always used, both are bad generally).

Saving new ships for an expansion is preferable (unless for some inexplicable reason they feel like handing them out for free). That way they can focus on balancing the game and making sure the multiplayer is as bug free as possible.

at most they should only improve upon what is published. as stated above i also expect fixes for long standing v1 issues. why give away expansion pack material when we are willing to buy it...just dont gouge us stardockers ;)
