Creating a new class of ships

I have an idea for a mod which I intend to create with an additional ship class.  I call this the Olympus Class.  These ships would be similar to the Capital ships one would imagine where they would be nearly indestructible.  These ships would have something similar to older ship styles where yes they would of course have forward cannons, but they would also specialize in broadside attacks capable of ripping a fleet to shreads.  In direct combat they would be unstopable as they are essentially a huge floating mass of guns.  These ships would also function as mobile starbases and as such they would be able to create a new type of fighters called Strike Craft.  The one weakness (so far) of these ships would be their mobility.  Directly engaging one would be suicide, but hitting it from behind could spare you.  What you would have to do is position a group of capitals behind it and tell them to continuously move to avoid it from bringing the main cannons to bear.  The reason that I say this is for balance issues.  Regardless of cost, once you had one of these in your posession, you could simply walk through heavily fortified planets to their capital and destroy it with the main cannon.  They would also have some characteristics of the capital ships in that they would also gain abilities and level up. 

These massive ships would be limited to one and only one for obvious reasons.  Another thing I was wondering about was:  where can you build such a collosus...  Well my solution is to resize the capital factory.  These ships would not directly be a new class, but they would have prerequisites and such high prices (aside from being the size of a planet..) that they may as well be a new class. 

These ships would also be requiring the research of the corresponding superweapon, as well as their own prototype.

Each would be centered around something related to that race.

TEC: battleship

Vasari: dreadnought

Advent: carrier

But anyways, here are some of their stats:

Trinity Blade

Forward guns: Prime Cannon, 9 StS Missile Launchers, two torpedo tubes, 12 autocannons, two uber heavy laser cannons

Both Sides: 7 very heavy laser batteries (150 per shot)

Abilities

Glory: boosts the shield regeneration and cooldown for a short period of time. 

Thor Torpedoes: essentially a combo of ion bolt and missile barrage.  It fires two huge torpedoes at the target.  IF its not destroyed outright, it will have its abilities, weapons, and engines deactivated, and will also be nucleararily contaminated.

Return Fire: for about a minute, all recieved damage is reverted also sent to the target, and by level three, it actually doubles the damage given.

Prime Cannon:  Available at level six, this unlocks the full power of the Trinity Blade.  It is similar to Cleansing Brilliance.  Every Passing second, it deals 1500 damage to the target, and anything in between.   The beam has a duration of 15 seconds.  This uses 1000 antimatter, and disables all systems after firing for 20 seconds, as well as its engines.

Judgement

Starboard: four beam cannons

Port: one beam cannon, 7 plasma cannons

Abilities

Onrush: sends forth a large group of strikecraft to deal damage for a short time

Prominence: A large plasma wave shoots off the star and into the target, dealing heavy damage and disabilizing it for awhile

Heavy Drones: slightly increases the power of the combat drones

Mass Conversion: Essentially a more powerful version of domination.  It CAN take control of capital ships (I have yet to prevent it from getting the other Olympus ships though...)

Norgul Genocide

Forward: six phase missile banks, three pulse beam projectors

Both Sides: eigth plasma wave cannons

Abilities

 Evacuation: Increases rate of movement for the ship by massive amounts and decreases the charge time for jumping

Colonize: Max population infrastructure instantly

Destroy Shields: Instantly destroy the shields for all the ships in an area

Genocide: Kills everyone on the planet in one fell swoop, increases your culture, and also sets planet health to 0.

Well yes, thats true, and I'm just about to test it out, just need to change the window files a bit, and the actual ship, not ones with weird meshes, should be buildable...(wow, gonna finish this one before the one I started first...)

Also, it is going to have 200 ST to begin with and will be upgradeable to 300 at level 10. Of course all of those little things have been nerfed, in fact, rather than forty damage, they have 1. Also, they die in one hit, so it won't take much to kill them, but they build uber fast, so it ought to balance out in the end...

The ship will have 200 fighters... holy shit....damm...well once u program that, I think you should concetrate on abilities, oh and for the abilities dont worry about the effects i will also make those. oh and also, i got the normal map and data map finaly to work. so now i can actualy concertate on the design of the ship it self. It should me take about a day to finish all the skinning and so on. but i think i will do most of the visuals, since i have an idea of how to do evrything now.

Ermm yah, that would kinda be impossible...If one could destroy a planet, it could be doable, but you can't...

Also, there is some weird layout with the icons...gonna keep working on it, but soon I ought to understand it so it can be built...

Well, we don't really know...Soviet looks like he is going to be the graphic designer, and I'll be the programmer...Soviet is getting the hang of textures, while I am also nearly done with the coding for both the judgement and the TB. There are just a few things that impede my further advancement, and the main one is the limit of capital ships...I will try to work around that, but it will likely not be fully done until the 1.1 patch is in an actual release, not the beta. I would plan to do the alpha and beta testing while in the beta, but for the community's sake for the cause of bugs, it will be private.

Also, sometime in the beta, we need to have an online game between Soviet and myself where no non-mandatory research is used, and just send in the Olympus ships alone into a blank planetoid for a 1vs1 with nothing to protect them. This would help to check for balance issues (and would just be awesome...)

Oh and soviet, two things:

1. Those screenshots above look awesome, you're doing a wonderful job on them.

2. In the mesh you sent me, it did not show up with the texture. The star showed up, but the texture didn't...Also,maybe you can fix this, but the star, if you zoom in really far, looks REALLY REALLY pixelated..I don't know how easy it would be to fix, but if you could...

oh shit i forgot to edite that, damm it one sec i will upload the new mesh, in a second. and the reason thethe sphere loooks pixelated its cuz thats how the particles are done. I will play with the particles abit more to see how it works, and see if it can be fixed. anyway...loook out for pm

I got the PM, I think I know why it wasn't working now, also I would say that I have made an accomplishment...

All abilities for the Trinity Blade are now coded. These abilities are (after several changes):
Glory: similar to power surge
Return Fire: similar to vengeance
Thor Torpedoes: combination of radiation bomb and ion bolt, can target planet
Prime Cannon: insanely powerful WMD. cannot attack planet, but it deals around 18000 damage (hence why you can't attack planets)

Sounds like the SDF-1  ;) super cannon that vaporizes fleets with a single volley. Do you plan to make the super volley draw so much power that the ship is a sitting duck for a short period?

This would be very nice for a "Robotech" mod.

Judgment will have something like that but it will almost kill the ship and destroy evrything in the gravity well...should be used only as last stand mesure to go out withe a bang... or an easy way to clear out enemyies fleet and then counter attack... by the way the I scruewed up on the data map for the skin, the whole ship reflects the world, make it extra glossy. i dont really like it that way so i will need to do some changes. now to add flare points. and I also improved the looks of the spere to make it look more solid. it does look kind of pixelated but not as bad as before. I will continue to work on textures and it should be done, so if u want to send me the TB for texturing go ahead and send me the project folder.

Sure I will do that. Also, I did what you said in the PM, and it works, and looks absolutely awesome!! Yah, there will be certain things that will drain the ships, Prime Cannon, and Prominence will both immobolize the ships for a while...

Also, this may be the last time I'm on for a few days, so yah..I'll get on if I can...

Well the skin for jugment as of now is complete the only thing is i need to figure out how to fix the bloom control (thing glows with bloom on) anyway i present u

Thats fine..I'll need to figure out why I can't show these darn ships so that they can be build in-game...Overall this is turning out really good, and now that I'm back, I can see the images and they are awesome!

SO i started working on TB, and ran in to couple of problems, first of i dont think you knew that Sins doesnt like polygons that have more then 5 sides, and you had a ton of them, had to edit all of them took forever, anyway, now i am at the point where i started to areange the UV map and i still have a long way to go, all of the weapons need to be UV maped, but the main ship and most of the large openings and wholes are done, god this will take for ever anyway this is what it looks like now

I hate these forums, won't let you edit...but yah...The nulls I have may need to be rotated and named..don't know how that works..but then the port side needs nulls as well as a few (most) of the forward guns..

In short, these are the weapons:
weapon 0-all laser cannons..sides and the two forward ones
weapon 1-auto cannons, these are the three barreled turrets, all forward facing
weapon 2-missiles, these are on the forward underbelly and also on the two towers on the sides
hanger-pick a side, any side...
exhaust-well I'm sure you know where this goes...
ability 0-Glory, center of the ship
ability 1-Thor torpedoes, one of the two huge barrels on the underbelly beside the normal missiles
ability 2-Return fire, center
ability 3-Prime Cannon, center forward facing cannon..looks different than others..

Sorry I didn't tell you sooner, but I would think you can still do it now, and I wanted to get out info withing 30 seconds because I left earlier than I thought I would have to.. Also, sorry about the polygons...did not know that...
