You may have everything set in order to be able to JOIN but if the HOSTS aren't set up correctly to be able to host, you won't be able to connect anyway.

All you can do is point the people who aren't able to host, to this forum (the stickies on the topic, and/or my guide "Networking and SINS")

You still need to open correct ports etc... to play as well as host - read The Monk's guide before asking anything else - if it doesn't help you I am sure someone will be willing to help you further (not wanting to be rude - just that it does tell most people all they need to know without them needing to ask further questions - so may save you waiting for people to respond on the forums when you could be playing :)).

I saw that guide. Iam using university network and my admin is retarded and won't help me, so if it is about ports there is nothing i can do and i will wait for 1.1 patch(?). Thanks for response.

Pretty much. If you're on a network with the ports completely blocked and no option to change that, you will need NAT-T in order to play online (which 1.1 will bring).

Bad luck - will catch you online soon with 1.1 though - just hope you can handle the wait!!!

Online games are played via the Ironclad Online button, the Multiplayer button in the game is only for local network play.

where is this sticky? we played tonight (just three of us, lan) and i could join but not host. the other two could see my game, but when they tried to join they both got disconnected immediately. i just built a new rig last week and have by far the best machine. i'd really like to host at a larger lan party at my house this friday. thanks for any help.

The game will only go as well as the worst rig since the game is simulated on ALL systems with the host syncing traffic...
There are stickys on network - look for the one by The Monk, or read the FAQ page

so it doesn't matter at all if my brand new machine hosts or the worst machine of the bunch hosts?

This question has been answered at least a dozen times by the devs, myself and other volunteers on this forum.... :NOTSURE:

SINS is P2P. The host in SINS is a "host" in name only. In SINS, each person runs the ENTIRE simulation locally on their own machine, and the "host" only SYNCS all of the player's simulations together.

this of course also means, that the "flow" of the game will be controlled by the slowest machine in the mix.

Generally it does not make a difference. However, since I am unsure what the syncing overhead is, the host having a better computer and/or internet connection MAY give a slight improvement... (Monk/Kyro etc... - are you able to confirm/debunk this???)

Since the bandwidth requirement for the "sync" operation is so minimal there wouldn't be any benefit to using (for example) a T1 over a normal cable/dsl high-speed connection. The only thing I would imagine might come in handy is if the host is the one with the better CPU. That being said, everyone still must wait for the "slowest" CPU in the mix to complete each simulation cycle so I don't imagine the benefit (if any) would very noticable at all.
