Progressive lag anyone?

So let's imagine we've got a single player sins game going, 5 races (all races present), 1 star, and about 100 planets.
I usually have a smooth, extremely fluid game going for about the first two hours, but mid/endgame my frame rate sinks and the game becomes very slow and choppy, with zooming in/out losing a great degree of fluidity.  Does anyone else experience this type of slowdown? It gets discouraging because I've got to play the game looking like a slide show so I usually never finish one.

My Specs:
Vista Ultimate 32bit -- 4 gigs RAM -- AMD X2 6400+ Black Edition @ 3.2 ghz/core -- Evga 8800 GT -- 320 gig WD Hard D

(btw my cores/ram never max out during these games)
And can sins make good use of quads?

@BoozeHammer,

maybe lighten up on the "booze" and read some of the other posts/threads regarding this topic.  :p

SINS only uses a second core for texture-caching, after which the game is happily single-core. :)

One thing you might try is increasing your pagefile size (google is your friend if you don't know how to do that).

I've always used the age-old "rule-of-thumb" of pagefile = (at least) 2.5 X amount of installed RAM.

Thanks for the advice Monk.

I do have a well scaled page file (already comparably sized to the ratio you provided).

I've had a few people tell me that the issue might be related to the Advent's AoE (and I usually play Advent with at least 1 other race playing it as well), but I was also under the assumption that the devs addressed that issue in 1.05.

Anyways I'll probably just stick to smaller games, maybe get some fraps readings for those framerate dips.

I'm experiencing the same problem.

But it happens regardless of map size and player/computer count.

I can play the game smoothly for about 30-45 minutes then the framerate drops to around 10FPS. After which the game eventually crashes. I am well aware of the fixes posted on this forum, and none of them have any effect on my games performance. Reinstall does nothing as well.

My system is as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13ghz
2 gigs of DDR2 Ram
256mb GeForce 7900

My Pagefile is set to roughly 3x the size of my available RAM also. So I know that is not the problem. It almost seems to me as if it's a memory leak causing the game to degrade in performance.

for those running nvidia 7x series, be sure you upgrade to the 8x/9x driver. there is another post in this forum that will help with specifics.

as for large maps that slow down, happens to me too. not much i can do about it. as i have more crud float around my 60-80 planets the game has more to process. i have plenty of computing power.

anyone not see lag on the largest maps in single player?

Thats odd...because i'm running the latest drivers from nVidia.
btw...since I forgot to mention, I am under Windows Vista 32-bit

Been a while since I've been on these forums.  I kinda gave up on Sins for a little while because of my inability to play it.   Which totally blows because I seriously enjoy this game.    As for the whole memory leak thing... I'd have to run some memory tests while having the game running and I haven't gottena round to doing any sort of testing.

Curious though...was a fix ever discovered for this wee issue?

Try updating both the game and drivers.
