A U.N. Scenario/Mod?

Well I've been playing the game for a while, (I play alot of solo campaigns, I'm not into multiplayer much)and I love the fact the game lends itself to mods and player created scenarios. With that said I have an idea for a mod based much around world politics today. Due to the fact that I lack any skills at making mods I will at least try to share the idea I have of a U.N. in space.

It takes place in a very large map. Single star would be preffered, but size restraints might force it to be multi star map.

Everyone is TEC.

There is eight "player" empires with the addition of several smaller non player empires. The player empires will of course represent countries with (confirmed) nuclear weapons and the non player will be those that are not.

Each empire will be established with fleets, planets and worlds each varied in size to better reflect ballance of power and influence.

Each player empire will have 3-5 "special" Novalith cannons that will have no cool down and require no antimatter. This will better reflect possible mutual annihlation if anyone decides to "push the button".

Everyone will have been given planet sight at one point but has since been removed. This allows everyone to "see" each other's colonized worlds while leaving some areas private for plans not ment to be seen by others.

Insurgency will also have a much higher rate and effect.

The player empires will have large populations with a very small ammount recources available. NPC empires will have small populations with a large ammount of recources avaible. This forces the player empires to have to seek trade with the smaller ones to secure recources.

The smaller empires are at a constant state of unrest and at war with each other. They will sign peace treaties and trade deals with and offer recources for sale to player empires ONLY. They will only offer trade deals for purchasing recources with one empire at a time, only execption would be an ally of an empire that has a deal allready in place. This cannot be changed.

Not only do you need recources to construct ships but you will need them for fleet upkeep. You fleet is a constant drain on your recources and credits. Ships need metal, crystals and credits for routine maintence, repairs, antimatter and paying crew. No recources will meen overall decay in your fleet. Your ships will stay damaged, not be able to refuel antimatter and not have enough crew to effectively pilot them causing loss of firepower and or abilites.

This sets the stage for (in my opinon) a very tricky if not impossibly hard scenario. You cannot win through out right fleet size and power alone. Having a large fleet would not only be very hard to build and keep running but could be rendered pointless if your enemy can vaporize your worlds from a distance. Allowing other players to conquer the smaller empires would leave you at a disavantage and vise-versa. Since the smaller empires are at war with each other your forced to walk tricky political problems. You want to stay on friendly terms with your trade partners by "assisting" them with thier conflicts while not pissing off the other empires by attacking thier trade partners. Allowing trade empires to conquer each other only meens having less people to have trade deals with as well. Having a constant demand on your recources as well as putting down possible insurgency and possibly fighting off pirates only adds to the tension.

Well thats my idea in a nutshell anyways. To actualy make it work would require changes in how the A.I. thinks and acts as well modding and changing I don't know how many other aspects to the game. Well I may have no skills and abilites at modding I can at least dream. Feel free to leave thougts.

Very interesting... of course, the people I play with would probably push the button as soon as the game starts

Yeah I think "winning" at this would involve lots of underminning oponets and political backstabbing while avoiding getting yourself blown up.

Causing Armageddon is fun.

Being able to sit back away from the mushroom clouds and laugh at the deaths of millions by your hand: Priceless.

Something you'll want to be careful with in this is that, if playing multiplayer, if you go down, ur GOING TO fire that cannon, its common sense, if you've gotta' die, you are taking your enemy down with you...

Its that fact that would force players to think very far ahead in thier plans in order to deal with it when it arrives. Since its not an issue of if it could happen but when it will happen. Making plans with other players to disable one's cannons or organizing a first strike offensive or hunkering down with deffensive structures. All of these ideas were planned out at one point or another. Well thats the idea anyways.

Has anyone played Hegemonia: Legions of Iron? Planet populations are frequently over 2 BILLION. However, to successfully make a planet revolt without a spy, you frequently have to kill everyone on the planet. So by the time a game is finished, you have killed billions of people. 10 Planets = 20 billion civilians by your orders. You basically make Hitler look like Gandhi.

Oh, watching the population of the enemy planet go from a thriving metropolis to a completely dead world is actually fun. I mean, with a missile battleship blowing them to pieces from orbit with acid/nerve gas/anthrax filled rockets killing over one million people a second, you kinda have to laugh or go crazy over the massive fatalities.

Sins is easier on the conscience with maximum populations being around 400 or 500.

The Novalith cannons I feel are the most reckless and unintentionaly hilarious weapons ever. By a show of hands how many people have bombed themselves? (raises hand) And the real wackiness could happen when the lovable yet incompetent Ensin Wiggles replaced the nuclear payloads with vasaline and mayple syrup. In my fantasy space world anyways.
