Getting hammered as Advent

I started out learning the game playing TEC. I have won a bunch of games now with them and want to start playing the other races. But man I am getting so hammered as Advent I really can't even start playing. I mean my money seems to start going down immediately and my metal/crystal production is super slow. Admittedly I am only now getting to be familiar with their tech tree (which is very different! :SURPRISED: ) but still what does that matter when I can't afford anything on it.

In one game I colonized three planets but when I got the third money started going down again so I reloaded and waited for some extra money in the bank before colonizing the third again. This worked but man was it slow going. Is this just a slow starting race? I am playing on easy as I get a feel for the race but if I was playing on a higher difficulty how in the world would I defend my planets with such a small fleet? The ships seem really breakable too.

The only advantage I see so far is that the ships seem much faster than their TEC counterparts.

I don't need a how to play them guide but I do need how to get started with them advice. I have started a bunch of times and still can't get it right. I don't have a clue as to how the AI built a fleet with these guys in my TEC games.

Thanks.

The only real difference between a good TEC economy and a good advent economy is one Harmony lab. Even then, more efficient ships mean that fewer have to be produced early on to take over planets, leaving more for infrastructure upgrades.

If your having problems with economy as advent, it's all in your head. Most people think of TEC as a booming civ, so boom with them. If people thought of Advent as a booming civ as well, they'd boom with advent as well and all would be the same.

Remember to upgrade your home planet and, especially later on, to build temple of Communion's to upgrade your income - the higher the allegiance, the more you get.

It sounds like you take the planets, build resource extractors maybe, and just fly your fleet away. However, a newly conquered planet costs you money--it sucks up your money. The first thing you need to do when you take a planet is to click on the green/globe planet icon and upgrade the Civilian infrastructure. If you move your mouse pointer over the credits box at the top of the screen a card should pop up showing you how much income you're getting from each planet. If some of them are negative, in the red and not green, then you need to upgrade the civilian infrastructure.

As Advent, your basic strategy will be to spam out the long range missile (LRM) frigate, which is the Illuminator. It's one of the best bang for the buck units of any race and one of the Advent's big advantages. Also, your first capital ship should be the colonizing Progenitor Mothership, which also has fleet support (shield restore) and combat (malice) capabilities.

Each race has its own favored method of boosting resource and/or cash production. This favored method gets specific techs to boost the effectiveness of this method, and the method's building can be researched with fewer civilian research centers than the other races can do.

The TEC's specialty is trade. They get Trade ports earliest, at level 2. At levels 4-6-8 they can start boosting the amount of cash per freighter(and refinery ships as well).

The Advent's specialty is culture. Culture boosts both tax income and resource production simultaneously by 10% as well as having tactical effects. They get culture centers at level 2 and their bonuses increase spread rate (at levels 2-4-6), at at level 8 they can double the max allegiance boost you can get to your planets to 20%.

The Vasari's specialty is resource gathering. They get refineries(matter processors) at level 3, and their resource techs combine metal and crystal improvements, so you need 1/2 the research.

Each of the races are able to get the buildings for the specialties that they aren't specialized in, and they can research racially unique boosts to those paths, but they get the buildings later in the tree and the boosts aren't as spectacular for their non-favored path.

The Advent can get a refinery-type structure? I didn't think that they could.

Nope. They still don't.

Actually, they can. Its a research toggle that changes a trading post to "focus" on resources.

I've built the trade posts, I've researched the skill, I toggled the ability... but but I didn't notice it do anything.... my rates did not change over time. So it *is* there, whether is does anything at all is debatable.

Doing some 2s with my advent partner last night we checked out this option; while it did not 'show' his resources income rate increase at all. He swears he noticed the crystal coming in faster.

Not sure how much it's worth but thats all I know about it thus far.
