Occupy or Not?

What's the best tactic after clearing a planet out? Do you occupy it so the enemy doesn't creep back in or just set up a roaming fleet of siege frigates to clear'em out after they most certainly sneek a colony frigate back in. If you occupy then you have to do all the necessary upgrades so your economy doesn't suffer. However if you leave the planet open and the enemy moves back in the intial liberation was pointless. Any thoughts?

I colonize, toss the civilian upgrades, and infrastructure upgrades and move on. Usually the boosted HP will be more then enough to stop my opponent from taking it over again.
Resources allowing; drop a few broadcast centers behind you at every step; even if the planet is leveled the culture will prevent them from taking it back.

i generally take them as well. i will dump the cash into the exploration first since it cannot be lost if the planet falls. if i can hold the planet for a couple of minutes then i will up everything else and build a standard set of structures.

can you briefly occupy and build broadcast centers then scuttle with the same effect as occypying? Figured this would be cheaper in the short term if the broadcast centers continued working (which they probably don't)

You can skip over Dead Asteroids, since they only cost resources...

I tried skipping planets once, but they ALWAYS find the weakest point and set up camp (once I had 50 planets, upgraded everything and they STILL found the one unfortified planet deep in my territory...

Oh, If you play the Starwars Mod, and you are the ONLY Empire fleet, you can take over the entire galaxy from just your home planet (just station a couple star-destroyers by each homeworld and "Execute Order 66", and invade all the enemy homeworlds simultaneously :)

I learned that they ALWAYS (when they have them), send siege frigates to a neighboring planet as an immediate counterstrike when you invade their homeworld...

poopy... sounds like I have to occupy'em then. Any ideas on best TEC fleet formation for offence. Used 10 LC's with 4 Sovas 6 Kols 4 Dunovs and 2 Akkn's, most effective cap fleet i've ever used/ thoughts?

Do you guys know how to take over mining astroids. I cannot blow up the enemy mining facilities. Is there a way to take them over?

Why yes I do!!!! :)

Colony frigate has a second ability (except for Vassari - their scout has the ability)

Whoops. Didn't mean to do that.

Alright, I found out that if you temp. occupy the planet and build some broadcast centers you can scuttle the planet and the centers still work. This seems to be the best option on a large map with your fleet spread thin. You don't have the overhead cost of the planet or have to worry about losing it after you've upgraded it.

i would switch 1 akkan for a marza. worst case senario you keep a colony frig a planet behind where ever you fleet may be.

im also assuming you have other frigs and cruisers in the mix. you definately want some repair ships in there along with a set of LRMs. A few light frigs or heavy cruisers would help keep the fire off your caps for a few minutes. :)

I agree with you on the Marza for an Akkn, sounds like a good swap. As for the LRM's, HC's, repair ships etc. I didn't have any. Granted this was against AI (sorry for no mentioning) every fleet of theirs I came up against was decimated by this combo. Not only that but I couldn't get them to stay and fight (why AI). I could add some repair ships and HC's. I found HC's can do much more damage then LRM's and hold their even when outnumbered 2:1. Maybe some CC's?
