1.1 Change Log: Carrier Frigates to have 2-3 squadrons?

"-Carrier frigates rebalanced to have 2-3 squadrons and be relatively less expensive per squadron."

-from change 1.1 beta change log

First question, are Carrier Frigates referring to the Carrier Support Cruisers?

If so, did they just become more valuable then the Carrier Capital Ships?  It says they are rebalanced so i trust IC to have balanced this some how.  But it seems a bit intense to have those ships have 2-3 squadrons.

If this is not referring to the Cruisers then what is it referring to?

I am not complaining here, if they have indeed chosen to make these cruisers this much more valuable, then I definitely look forward to playing the game and seeing how they have chosen to pull this off.  I'm just curious and would like some clarification and maybe details on how they chose to balance it all.

FrogBoy (I think it was him, one of the Stardockians anyway) said in another thread that their cost would be increased almost proportionally. In other words, they have more squadrons, but cost more.

The Squadrons would be 10-20% cheaper on average though, giving them a slight buff.

And yes, it is reffering to the cruisers. I believe the term "Frigate" basicly includes all non-Capital ships.

I hope the change also includes a similar proportional increase to the hull and shields of the frigates. Otherwise we will end up with a very expensive and very fragile ship.

They actually aren't that fragile, they can take more of a beating than most of the support cruisers. Considering they can run around the fight trying to disengage while their fighters / bombers do the work, it actually makes their survivability rather favorable.

The drone host has/had only like 100-200 shields. even the light frigates had more.

Yes, but it has 1150 hull, which is more than any other frigate / cruiser in the game, except a Vasari enforcer. That is twice the hull of most Advent & TEC light frigates. Not too fragile. The other carrier cruisers have a fair amount of hull as well, and more shields than the drone host.

... will the carrier capital ships get more squads? this just seems unfair to them. Kinda makes the sova a lot less important? which is sad because its one of my favorate ships in the game...

Capital Carriers already have a lot of abilities that make them useful beyond their squads. They can fight, siege worlds, and have their powers. They are rebalancing the cost and squad size of the cruiser carriers to make them more useful, but my understanding is they will also cost more to give them that extra squad...just not twice as much. In a way, the Flak frigate damage reduction should be a small boost to Capital Carriers in itself. Otherwise, I don't think we will see their role diminish.

I realize there is alot of other stuff the caps do, but im just worried that being able to get the extra squads from a cruiser will make it less economical to use sovas. They are huge and take ALOT of command points. BUT ive been around for long enough to trust ICs judgment. I just hope they dont screw up the balance with having that many fighters. I really am looking forward to seeing what they got for us.

It's also why there's a beta of the patch.
