It Should Not Be This Difficult

It Should Not Be This Difficult

It should not be this difficult when trying to enjoy a game online.  We all paid for this game, however in order to play/host it you have to make intricate configuration changes.  To the everyday geek this is no big deal, however the 80% out there are somewhat technically challenged it is a big deal.  It's money wasted down the toilet.  One should not have to go into this or that to make adjustments that already should of been made during the developement of Sins.  On top of the hosting issue you have the "Mini-dump" issue that happens quite frequently.  It's gotten to the point where I'm about to hang up my Illuminators and say the hell with it.  Point blank, hosting needs to be made to were all can host.  I understand firewalls, proxies and other hurdles, however when one turns off their firewall and it still doesn't let you host something is up. Mini-dumps, the fact that this cannot be replicated in-house on developments side blows me away.  You have hundreds complaining about it.  Guys get on the ball or you going to start loosing a lot of customers, starting with me.

If people were able to follow it, more would be hosting. I see everyday in the Lobby, "Can you host a game, I can't?" "Will you host a game" and so on... Keep telling yourself your intelligent, you seem extremely bright.

I rather doubt they've all seen the guide. Hard to follow directions you don't know about.

I'm going to go right ahead here and say something defined by this guy as unconstructive.

itsmevic, will you please see reason? You have a response from the Monk that actually refers you to a previous post that you made, to which the Monk responded with decency rarely seen on the interwebs, and which you didn't acknowledge. You then proceed to quadruple-post saying pretty much the same thing, ignoring constructivity (if that's a word) and, indeed, reason, picking out imagined personal faults from the posts of others.

Wouldn't you get annoyed if some guy asked a question, you responded civilly and helpfully, the response appeared to be ignored, and then the guy continues to post about pretty much the same topic in escalating levels of unconstructivity (that word again...), and then, once you point out this fact, the guy takes a position of apparent moral highground, and completely ignores any reason in your response.

It's very difficult to response constructively to a post that appears to have little point other than to complain. Yet the Monk and Kitkun have managed this (rather admirably, if you ask me) in a much more mature way than you have, and indeed, than I could probably do.

The ultimate answer to your apparent problem is in the very first reply here - if you read the changelog for 1.1 you'll see it's a whole lot easier to host, with no port-forwarding (or whatever it is) required. So I believe they are very much "on the ball". In fact, I rather believe the devs have been doing a fantastic job of maintaining support for their program. Call me a fanboy, but it's true - IC and SD both do the supporting thing very well; there's no point in complaining about a problem that's about to be fixed.

Now, can you please just leave off on the complaining? Regardless of your maturity, this type of criticism and reaction certainly reflects poorly on it. Also, if you respond, could you please do it all in a single post? Five posts in a row slightly detract from the flow of responses, and could quite easily be condensed into an easy-to-read single post (unless my browser is doing something particularly irrational).

Have a wonderful day :)

Since I am able to host, and got it working within 5 minutes by just reading the FAQ (I was unaware of The Monk's guide until a later date), I guess by your definition I am bright :D

And just to prove it again - you meant to say "telling yourself YOU ARE intelligent" or "telling yourself YOU'RE intelligent".

P.S. I notice you refuse to let this thread or the other one die without you having the last word.

OMG - you cannot let your gripe go can you.
How come you don't go as hard in the game as you do on the forums??? You don't quit posting at the first sign of someone else, unlike when their fleet shows up...

I can see itsmevic's point about the game not setting everything up automatically. That would indeed be nice. But I'm affraid his attitude lacks a little tact. That is unfortunate, and I think he just basically wants to rant... he doesn't really want help.

Just my opinion

Sorry I can't help you itsmevic, I am pretty much as non tech savvy as you. But I'll check out Monks guide and report back on how easy/hard I found it to follow.

Cheers. :)

Itsmevic was online the other week and asking The Monk questions. The Monk whispered me and asked if he even realised who he was asking advice from (since he had ripped into him).

And you have also made a point - the game is setup to use P2P - The Monk has told people how to do it and gets blasted for it.

People blast those who are more l33t than they are.
