You need to extract the rar file (winzip should do it, or winrar if not) into the mod path directory. A quick step by step guide:

1) Launch game, go to options > mods > show mod path. It varies between XP/Vista.
2) Extract the mod to that path, and make sure "use folder names" is enabled (it should be by default).
3) Double check that it extracted properly, for example if a mod is called MyMod, the path needs to be ...\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods\MyMod\, with various folders in MyMod, like GameInfo, String, Texture, etc based on the mod.

It should then show up in the Mods section in-game. Also, most big mods should include a small README with basic installation instructions if you want to double check.

A .rar file is the archive ;) It's like a zip, only more widely used these days.

Download WinRAR here, install it, then open the .rar file with it and you'll see a bunch of folders you'll need to extract.

Ok I extracted it which is cool and I see the mod on the mod screen but now when I enable it, it doesnt actually work. Like youre supposed to be able to pick the empire faction but it does give me the option and it just doesnt want to work.

I haven't tried the mod myself, so you'd probably have to take it up with the mod developer. I do remember people posting about the same thing, that they couldn't select the faction, but I don't know why or the solution :p

Well maybe you should try it and give me some more help I did give you the link after all lol. But Ill look up those forums in the meantime.

It does or does not give you the option to play Empire?

On my Vista machine, the mod path looks like:
C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods\SOGE\Mod folders such as GameInfo, etc.

No theres really no options what so ever I enable it and it changes the background to like green or whatever and then nothing else an recently I tried to just put the files inside the data inside program files and it shows up as "string not found" and whenever I try to build ships it crashes and says something about the minidump. But helping making the enable mod feature work is my top priority so dont worry about that unless nessessary

What language are you running the game? You may need to rename the english.str file to the language you are running.

OK I'm also having a problem with installing the mod.

The path that Sins says is the mod path doesn't exist on my computer, anyway I can change the path it uses?

(I'm on XP)

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\

Please note that some of these directories are hidden by default. To unhide them, go to Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and set yourself to view hidden files and folders.
