Where is the tech tree ?

I am a noob & I cant find a tech tree and am not finding it easy to predict the outcome of any research pattern I choose from the in game information.

Can anyone tell me how to do this, eg how do I decide to research for Battle Axe, I dont see any mention of it in the research window.

Just going to bump this puppy, some of these sites are lifesavers for anyone starting GalCiv (hell, I use JavaScout's site constantly even after 23 or so games).

Not that I'm unappreciative, because these are AWESOME products that people obviously put a lot of time into and I use regularly, but does anyone have a printable version with just the tree and the research costs?

Now that I've played the game for a while, I find the main reasons I consult the references are to a) find out what I'm missing to get to tech X or b) find out whether a seemingly innocuous tech trade, A for B, is really in my best interest.

(Commence flaming me for being a lazy ingrate now!)
