Favorite Advent Capital Ship

Spinoff of the "favourite vasari cap" topic

RedSoviet here, I enjoyed the vasari "Favorite" ship topic so much, I wanted a topic for the same reason for my other favourite race: Advent

  • Post which Capital ship is your most effective.

  • What tactics you use with this ship and any other capital ships you use.

  • The order and effectiveness of each ability trainable.

  • Pros and Cons you have noticed from your own personal experience with said ship or ships.

-Thanks, RedSoviet

As far as design, the radiance is the most appearance friendly, with a sleek streamlined hull.

With the siege cap being my least favourite (Been playing so much vasari lately I forgot it's name >.<)

Thats the Halycon Carrier. The two constant bonuses are great, especially the increase for energy weapons... Great for any illuminator fleet.

I like the Radiance because its good through the whole game for popping those pesky militia ships early game and late game it really helps against cap ships with its Detonante Antimatter ability which basically turns Cap Ships into huge frigates ;)

Cleansing Brilliance is beastly too :D

my favorite = the Halycon Carrier

1: its energy aura gives cooldown bonus for every ENERGY WEAOPON inside, as far as i know there are only 3 types of attack that do not count as energy

1: TEC rockets
2: Vasari Missles
3: TEC Siege Nukes
(Advent siege bombs ARE energy :) )

this aura makes it why i get it as my 2e capital
the ability to have an aditional fighter per squadron every level also adds up to overall damage (specialy when using fighters to hit weaker targets)
it has pretty good offensive placed beam turrets, with a little microing the arrays between enemy fleets it does the most damage of any carrier type (+ the high amount of strike craft (standard + upgrade)

all this makes this a very nice capital ship to have in your fleet,
it's only drawback is ofcourse the sluggishnes of any capital ship + the issue of surviving against Vasari Phase Missles (combined)

indeed, when on small maps i cant help to take the radiance as my #1 capital, it's just so monstrously strong combined with its detonate antimatter ability, and with cleansing brilliance it becomes near imba (tough i still prefer the Halycon aura in bigger fleets

Rapture Battlecruiser.
It becomes the flagship for my fleet and remains so throughout the game. I find I really don't need more than one, ever, instead I get doubles of Halcyons and Radiances.

I always get and give priority to Vertigo as it's cheap and has a fast cool down. You can really hamper your opponent when all of his cap ships and most of his cruisers are hit with this.

Next is Vengeance and works extremely well in self targeting usage as the Rapture is a lucrative target.

Concentration Aura is good, but Advent strike craft are already a force to be reckoned with, and unless I'm building alot of Drone Hosts, I put my points elsewhere.

The only con I've noticed with the Rapture is that it's not so good under heavy fire. It can dish out pretty good damage but can't take it. In fact, I've found the Rapture gets in trouble faster than any other advent cap ship except maybe the Progenitor. But once I have it covered by a pair of Radiances, and backed up with a Halcyon and a Revelation or a Progenitor, it dominates the battlefield.

Oh, and speaking of Domination it's a truly wonderful late game ability, especially when you have Disciples stealing antimatter and giving it to the Rapture; all of a sudden, your enemy is down 5 or 6 heavy cruisers and you're up 5 or 6 hehe! :)

Radiance with a Rupture second is really fun. Cast vengeance on the Radiance and then use the force attack skill of the Radiance to see most light frigates kill themselves. You can even stop people from phase jumping if you use the forced attack skill at the right time, and then they help to kill themselves when you have placed Vengeance on the Radiance. Just a little fun that I like to have to totally roast those attempted escapes.

i tend to start with the mothership as i can immediately start capping asteroids and wewaker planets just minutes into the game. once it upgrades the shield regen is quite awsome in fleet combat, not as effective if your opponent is focus firing on one ship at a time but when the fire is spread out it makes your fleet increadibly resilient. malic is nice too but it is a really short duration and it doesnt seem quite as worth the energy as shield regen, unless you're gonna pop off a cleansing brillience of course. never used ressurection so not sure how good it is

but the motherships is my favorite early game ship as it can cap planets and is excellent fleet support. late game i try and get at last 3 capital ships so im not really sure which is my favorite.

My favorite has to be the Radiance. The detonate antimatter is epic, (at a high enough level it can destroy most smaller frigates with one shot) The Cleansing Brilliance is awesome.

My favorite strategy is to have one radiance with the anamosity (The one that makes every enemy ship target that ship) and keep it at the back of my fleet, so when I engage an enemy their entire fleet targets it, and gets ripped apart by my fleet as they try to get in range. This strategy has a problem though, if attacked from behind that ship is done.

WHat I usually do is build the Mothership first and use that as my flagship (Since its abilities enhance other ships you want it at the center of your fleet) Then I build up a radiance then a random of the others. For matches when I get the the maxed fleet, I usually have 2 of each ship and the reamaining 6 are random Radience, Rapture, or Halcycon ships.

My most effective Advent Capital Ship would most likely be

1. the Halcyon Carrier.

2. I usually keep them far from the actual battle and use them to pour in fighters/bombers while cruisers, frigates and other cap ships do the dirty work.

3. IDK, I use a different strategy all the time.

4. I've noticed I don't really use them in combat. Some people have been saying it has some quite good offensive capabilities and defensive abilities, besides the obvious squadron support.

The Pros I use for them is simple: I actually launch squqadrons from them. I've played a couple people on LAN who use Carriers and kamikazes, distractions, or just all-out war machines that are to combat frigates and cruisers.

But the actual ship, I find it's Pros:

1. It's actually a good combat ship against light/heavy frigates and multiple cruisers.

2.A good squadron support starship. She can launch only two squadrons, but when upgraded to six, she can really deal some damage to enemy capital ships, cruisers, frigates etc. etc.

That was fun :D

1.) The halcyon carrier, because I love strikecraft and the halcyon is a king among carriers.

2.) Mothership, very nice support abilities. Malice and shield regen is very good.

Great responses, I really am content how this thread is turning out.

Anyhow, I'll be honest that I never believed so many fellow advent players use alternate starting capitals other than the Mothership. Not only is it an absolute amazing ship, it's abilities are fantastic.

I don't deny the greatness of the Radiance for instance. But I have *never* had any problems with militias/pirates early on in any multiplayer game with the Mothership, along with her ability to colonize and the bonus gained from colonizing with this ship.

I've tried a multitude of times with other Capitals as my starter ship, but each time the hurt really shows with having to produce colonizers early on. There expensive and only regain Antimatter at .5 per second. This combined with there Antimatter cost per jump makes colonizing a hassle and relatively slow in comparison with the Mothership.

Would anyone who uses and is effective with an alternate starting Capital provide there opinion on this circumstance and how they reduce the pain caused by being stuck with colonizers only early game..?

My favorite ship is the Halcyon Carrier... It's also usually my flagship.

My main reason is it's fighter support and heavy firepower. This thing packs almost as much firepower as a battleship when you level it up or research the right techs.

As for starter ship, I usually build a Halcyon Carrier and imediately save up for a Progenitor Mothership right afterwards as soon as I've researched the right tech. With this combo no "neutral" faction can stand up to me and colonizing is easy and quick. Usually by the time the mothership is built, my halcyon is ready for battle and has already cleared two or three planets. It's just a matter of having the mothership follow the halcyon's path, colonizing everything on that path until it catches up with the halcyon in the midst of a battle :P

Yeah.

I really don't find the Progenitor useful except being able to colonize. I hate Colony Frigates, and I won't tell you why because it's too long and I'm too lazy to type it up.

Everyone says it's amazing in combat. In my opinion, it sucks. I once had a small fleet lead by a Progenitor so I could use it as an example so I could know how powerful it was. 3 Kodiaks downed it. So in my opinion it sucks in combat.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

if the progenitor gets direct hits, it does indeed suck. its a support-cap. keeping it behind your frigates and cruiser will confess its real power. shield regen at lvl3 means 62.5 shieldpoints/sec for all surrounding ships. i always build the progenitor first to save the ressources of a colony frigate.

C'mon, nobody likes the Jalepeno? Clairvoyence can be useful and Provoke Hysteria is pretty sweet...I like all the Advent Capital Ships!

Not my favorite Advent ship, but I will have to say that Provoke Hysteria gets bonus points for sheer freakishness.

No one seems to like the Revelation. :o

It does look like a leprachaun's shoe. Perhaps IC should tweak it a little. :)

And swap the lackluster Guidance ability into something more useful.

Radiance is my fave cap out of all the factions.

I like the Radiance and the Rapture. While i do enjoy playing Advent i do hate that all the ships sound like they are being piloted by the computer girl in resident evil.

Thats why when i play i just mute the dialog....
