Something extremely wrong with this game

Playing on a large map, everything is fine until I attack one of the races who have the "crusader" ships. I have 7 battleships and 60 cruisers in my fleet. Their fleet is comparable. Now, cannot kill a single one of their ships. I cannot even get my ships to obey orders and actually shoot something. Not a single ship follows orders and targets what I tell it to target. Many ships dont shoot at all. I can move them fine, and they all shoot random things, but never my target. I cannot even kill the smallest frigate in their fleet. What am I missing here? All other races function just fine except this one that is literarily game breaking.

"crusader" ships

It sounds like you aren't talking about the Advent's Destra Crusader, which is their heavy cruiser.

If you are, I don't see how it could be causing the effect you are talking about.

If you aren't, then it sounds like either the Advent's Iconus with Repulsion that pushes enemy ships around, or the Vasari's Subverter which can temporarily disable ships. Try not to cluster your ships as that's when the enemy can be most effective.

You'll probably need to wait for more posts for good strategies dealing with those ships.

Well whatever it is, it makes this very large bubble in space with white'ish tentacles coming out of it. My ships in or anywhere near that cannot shoot, shoot very slowly, or down right shoot something they arent being told to shoot. Whatever this is it is extremely game breaking.

Most ships with more than one weapon (largely cap ships) have them spread out in such a way that they can't all target the same target, so some of the weapon banks will fire at something other than what you tell the ship to fire at (TEC battleships are one of these).

Sounds like your describing the iconus guarding btw, which was mentioned by kitkun. That bubble effect is them sharing damage done on the shield of ships around it which can make things hard to kill, try targeting those first. Also, try not to use a fleet full of cruisers, they deal very little direct damage, with the exception of the heavy cruiser.

I use 60 heavy cruisers, 5 battleships and 2 battlecruisers as my fleet makeup. Yes the ships are called the Iconus Guardian. I have tried killing them first and that seems to have made a significant difference. That however that still doesnt explain why inside the bubble my ships cannot shoot or follow orders. Im not talking about the secondary/side guns on the battleships. Im talking about their main guns and the heavy cruisers. They all just sit there, randomly shooting things, separate from what I am telling them to attack.

Ok

1.The large bubble is the Guardian ship it causes 33% of your damage to be spread amongst its ships (and 33% of your damage spread out isnt really that much damage).

2.The reason why your ships arent attacking what you tell them to is because the advent have a captial ship ability that makes all enemy ships in a certain range attack it.

That part just sounds odd to me.

Maybe the Domina Subjugator's Suppression ability, but I don't remember exactly...

If they have a Radiance Battleship. (Animosity ability causes all enemies to target the battleship.)

Yeah the radiance can do that. Is this is agianst the AI or another player cause that would explain why your ships are being beaten silly.

One thing to consider is the range attack setting for your ships or the ships in your fleet? Are they set to "Hold position" (red hexagon, I think) or are they set to the large blue circle (attack anything in the gravity well on your own initiative)? You might be better off setting all of your ships to "Hold Position" and then micromanaging them; selecting groups of them and then telling them what to attack. They should follow your orders that way unless an Advent Radiance Battleship casts Animosity (which makes all of your ships attack it).

BTW, I suggest that you play some single player games as Advent (ditto for Vasari) so that you can learn the race and its strengths and weakenesses. I'd say it's a must before going online for online multiplayer.

Well the damage spread was huge as their ships were regenerating their shields faster than my fleet could hurt them (thats 77 ships shooting 1, with max tech). And to completely lose the ability to order my ships to attack a specific target seems extremely overpowered to me, if not outright stupid.

As suggested by CenturionJixra, play some games as Advent. They're tough, but not overpowered.

Well, I can see a fleet of Guardians, Radiance Battleships, and Progenitor Motherships causing some major issues for you. The Guardians spread damage, while the Radiance forces everyone to attack it (coupled with armor upgrades), and the Progenitor uses its shield recharge ability and malice targeted on your cap ships. That's a pretty devastating combo and will mean it will likely outlast your fleet.

Have you tried getting the fleet to jump into one of your worlds? If you can get them to follow you to a world with a few repair bays and a jump inhibitor, you can fight them while getting your ships repaired. When they finally turn and run, they're stuck 7 times as long, meaning you continue to punish them.
