Direct control of Fighters (or other ships)

Is there a mod so you can directly control fighters? I mean like right in the cockpit and you can fly around inside the fighter, under your control. Rather than telling were to go, you fly it. This would be good in other ships too, but a fighter would be best. Its just an idea, and would probably take more modding than most people can be bothered doing, but it would let you be in the fight, rather than watching. Anyway, its just an idea. (A cool one :))

Not possible to turn an RTS into a flight sim :P

Forget modding, that would be a completely new game!
It's simply not possible to mod the game that way.

That would mean changing the game genre and expectedly require more altering of and making new files than a total conversion.
I don't have a clue of how to do it. But you could send a request to a game maker company if they would bother to try such a thing.

But I don't think anyone could say it wasn't a cool thing to do.

A) Thats TOTALY impossible in this engine, even if you stole the source code it would take a few years to make into a good dogfighter game.

B) No company is ever going to "take suggestions", lol.

C) Go play Freespace 2 - still the best space dogfighter ever made.

Hmm, OK, forget control, how about simply being to see as though you are on the bridge/cockpit of a given ship. I remember that Homeworld had that feature where you could hit a key, I think it was 'O', or shift 'O' or ctrl 'O' or something and you would instantly shift from watching and controlling to viewing from the bridge/cockpit.. not a game winner (or even changer,) but definitely fun especially in some of the larger furballs. of course this game is inherently 2-d but I think i would fun.. and possible.

I didn't know Homeworld had cockpits and bridges in... or are you talking about the "first-person" camera which just plonked your viewpoint where the ship is?

Anyway, to answer your question - no. Its not possible given current engine constraints.

well you could adjust the minimum zoom level, but I don't know... Maybe if you can change what happens when you double click...it does change the viewpoint, so that might be a way to do it, but that is probably hardcoded...

Technically, Ironclad already implemented quite a few suggestions during the Beta, and even a couple post-release ;)

But yeah, something like this they wouldn't do.
