nobody can help?

With the attitude in your previous post, I wouldn't be too inclined to help either.

However, I had the same problem but it eventually worked. I would dare to guess that the load on the server from the beta release is causing the issues.

Patience is a virtue and I expect it will work eventually.

Whiney sarcasm is not a virtue.

If you can't download, try the alternate download option in Impulse's preferences (click the blue orb in the corner).

Just a general usability tip to all developers out there: Don't put any important options under things like blue orbs. Normal people like me do not have it occur to them to click on things like that to get more options. It looks like a piece of the background to me.

I had the same problem with microsoft office 2007 --couldn't even save a file until I realized they hid the options under the windows symbol.

I have to second that opinion on Impulse. I downloaded it, installed it, and started getting aqcuainted with the format (used to Steam of course). Sins showed up no problem, but I had no idea where to get the update. Reading the instructions here helped, but the blue orb I thought was just either fancy art, or just a windows window manager tab. A more intuitive soltution would be great. I know its not SOSE beta 1.1 related, but its all working together to make a better experience for everyone :).

It's intuitive if you've used Vista.

Not to me. :NOTSURE:
If I weren't squatting on your forums, it would've taken forever for me to figure that out.

I found the orb but thought to myself "that's a funny place to put such an important menu..."

Not everybody out there use Vista BTW.

If you are still having problems then you can get back to the 1.05 version, without resorting to the CD, by turning OFF the "Show pre-release versions" from the aforementioned "Orb" menu and then you can install the latest full release.

I eventually figured this out after having failed to get he beta after two nights and an entire morning trying - including getting to the "Oh no! I've uninstalled SINs and can't install it again!" stage.

P.S. I found the Orb menu cos' I fiddle with everything when I first get it. But it only just barely lights up when you hover over it, whilst its sibling controls light up far more obviously, and doesn't have a tooltip, when the other graphical object on that level all do - so no, it's not very intuitive and it's inconsistent.

P.P.S. Sorry, but I've been thinking about this a bit more. If you see an icon in any top corner of an application, past experience will mean you will expect one of three things, if anything, to happen when you click on it:

1) An about box for the product will pop up,
2) You will be taken to the companies web site, or
3) If you are already in a web browser - and Impulse has a bit of a Web Browser feel to it - be taken to the home page of the site.

Whilst this is very true, the problem is that it is the delivery mechanism that is going wrong - Impulse - and Impulse is not a beta version. We haven't even got the Beta version of SINs yet.

Well, yeah, we have. If you are talking about SOASE and not SINS that other pc game.

Yeh! I was meaning SoaSE - although funnily enough I have that other game kicking around somewhere.
And by "we have not got the beta yet" - I mean that due to problem with delivering it via Impulse - some of us are still having trouble getting the beta. I know the Beta is available - that's the point.

Actually I have come to the conclusion that this is just a capacity problem and that the only problem is Impulses inability to identify that and tell you. I got it downloading today without changing any settings so I think its just luck of the draw if you hit the server when its quiet.

It'd be nice if Impulse would just say "Sorry, the server is too busy at the moment, please try again later." Or ideally implement some form of queuing system, maybe with some natty muzac playing in the background, interrupted now and again with a voice saying "we-value-your-custom-and-thank-you-for-your-patience, one-of-our-servers-will-be-with-you-shortly."

I got it - finally - which seems to confirm my capacity theory.
