Always get lag on Research pages

Whenever I open my Civil and Military research pages for any faction, my game lags. My friend, who has a better computer, also has this problem. We can run the actual game without lag, we only get lag on the research pages. Anyone have an explanation?

Basic questions first of course. Latest version of the game? Latest drivers? What kind of hardware is running? Also what kind of maps are you running?

Does this happen at any time or just late in the game? That kind of stuff.

I have actually had this happen, as well.

For me though, it's any Research/Black Market pages, etc. It tends to only happen during the FIRST opening of a page or tab on said page (ie: the different research tabs on the research page, or the opening of the Black Market or Diplomacy pages). Once opened, it tends to not occur for me for the rest of the game (failing that, it never lasts more than the first 10-20 minutes of a game).

It's happened for me on all versions of the game since 1.02, and for some reason tends to be the most pronounced on randomly generated small maps (odd, I know, but it's what I have observed).

I always figured it was just the game loading something poorly, or my computer being a pain in the ass - it never occured to me that it could be a glitch, lol!

Uhm, the computer is on the lowish end of things:

2.8ghz p4.
1 gig of RAM (not positive on the type atm).
256 MB Geforce 7800 GS/OC (AGP).
80 gig HD w/ ~35 gigs of free space.
Defragged on a regular basis.
Runs on Windows XP.

I run the game at 1280x1024 resolution, most of the effects are turned on, the textures are a mixture of Highest and Medium for the most part... Game otherwise runs smooth as butter until massive fleets come into play, and then I just have to turn off the Bloom (makes me cry a little, every time), oh, and debris is disabled (that one fubar's the game for me more than any other effect!).

If you guys think of any futher info you could use, lemme know.

I'm actually in a Lan game with the OP. And I while I don't think (in retrospect at the start I thought I was lagging in the research screen) that my own computer does lag. But I notice a significant slow down on my own screen when he enters the research screen.

I'll post my specs soon but needless to say I'm on a Toshiba laptop so there are no new drivers for my card.

Well I get lag on the research page at any point in the game, on large and small maps. We're running the newest complete version of the game.

I have a VisionTek RADEON 9200 Series,128 MB memory. I have 760 MB RAM, processor is Intel Celeron 2.93 GHz. If you want anything else tell me, I'm not extremely adept with the hardware stuff.

I just downloaded the newest drivers, which happen to still be over a year old. I'll see if I still get the problem but I suppose I will, I also downloaded the Beta patch, so I can see if it's resolved there.

I guess this is probably because of my computer, because I also have the problem with the see-through planets, where as thawn does not.
