Game speed

It seems that the game speed has changed considerably. What used to be "fast" is now "normal" and now's "fast" is bloody fast...

Can one of the devs pls drop a line explaining the speed change ? i.e is it just a relative change across all game aspects? Or did some things become faster / slower than others ?

I'm not sure where you guys are seeing this, the speed values have not changed. The beta gameplay.constants is in text, you can compare it with the 1.05 one - everything is the same ;)

I always thought it ran too blasted fast before. There needs to be a "slower" speed option below what is available now.

Fast turns the game into an FPS. That's okay for people who want to play Sins in FPS mode, but not for everyone... because Normal is like normal was, but we have no slightly faster mode.

Let me explain why this is important. The fast mode in 1.09 allows things to happen faster. Whoever can manage things the fastest wins, which is a fine style of playing if you're here to hone keyboarding and mousing skills, which is fine if you're trying to improve your keyboarding or mousing skills... but many of us don't need to. Many of us also likes our detailed empire version that took almost an hour if on a small map, and hour or two if on a medium, and a couple hours or more if on a large.

The Normal on the 1.09 beta is too slow, and the Fast is too fast. If you want to introduce a FPS speed, please introduce a new selection of speed. Do not just take away our fast RTS style speed and replace it with a fast FPS level speed. This doesn't mean RTS speeds are inferior, it just means people have to pay attention to more detail every second to win... while at higher speeds, things go so fast that it's about how much detail you actually manage to manage makes you win.

So if you're going to span out the max and/or min speeds, don't take away the origional speeds and replace them, add more selections.

That doesn't mean the game engine hasn't been modified to interpret these numbers differently, and that's what we're asking.

Completely disregard my post. The bug is something entirely different. When playing in 1.09 Multiplayer, the speed is always very fast no matter what setting you use. In single player 1.09, the fast is just like 1.05 fast. normal and slow are also the same.

I think it has something to do with the new Alloy system, but it's making every speed setting entirely too fast and single player works just at the same speeds as 1.05 did.

I also noticed this bug.

BUT, such insane speed does not last long. Give it a minute or two and you will realize that the speed has been back to normal.

So the game starts as ultra fast then goes to proper speed after a while.

I have noticed one game where things were playing ultra fast for a few minutes....then the game crashed. I have played another game where things seemed ultra slow. Both of these games were launched under the fast setting. This doesn't happen all the time though, usually games play at the appropriate speed.

I've only played the beta on Fast and I love it! I always thought the game was too slow and while this new fast does take some getting used it I like it much better. Please leave the ability to play fast in the game!
