Modding DOA in Beta?

Hello,

I am using the latest beta version of Sins (according to Impulse), 1.09[b].038

I'm not modifying any parts of the GameInfo. I'm just copying a single file from the shipped Reference Data into my mod's GameInfo folder: CAPITALSHIP_TECHCOLONY.entity -- unmodified filesystem-level copy. But when I load my mod, Sins crashes (hence the DOA = Dead on Arrival in the post title). Have they really changed the entity files so fundamentally that a 1.05 entity file (in text format, not binary) won't work? Guess they might have added an entirely new required field for who knows what...

Is the only solution, to downgrade to 1.05 until they have released 1.09's reference data? Or have they already released it and I'm just not finding the link?

Thanks.

Yup same issue with me, tried using a mod that I had a while back, just got the game re-installed, didn't feel like digging up my CD so I used Impulse to download it and instead of giving me the stable release I was given the beta 1.1, didn't really have any interest in playing the beta but oh well. However I would like to continue using my mods, unfortunately every time I try to load one I get a C++ runtime crash.

They need to release the mod tools and data for every version I believe, including beta's.

I'm a little irked by this because I WAS working on a mod I had been toiling away on since the initial release, and now I cannot test it because I do not have a compatible version, my only solution is to uninstall and then re-install again using my CD and then hunting up the 1.05 patch.

Lord Firefox,

well no need to be "irked" anymore.....  ;p

1. Install version 1.05 via Impulse

2. Copy the install folder to another location.

3. Then patch to version 1.1 BETA.

Now you can run either version as you wish.

I can't do that as I've already installed the 1.1 update, unintentionall. I had rebuilt my system a couple of weeks ago and decided to re-install Sins but instead of using the CD I decided to just let Impulse install it instead of hunting for my install disk. Instead of getting 1.05 I got 1.1 or rather 1.09(b). And I really didn't want in the beta in the first place.

So nix step 3. :P

What's stopping you from un-installing the game and starting over? Or is that somehow a "no-go"...?  :p

Sure you can just uninstall then follow the Monks instructions. It would not have offered you the beta if your preferences had not been setup to show prerelease versions. Even then you had to make the choice to install beta. Regardless you weren't paying that much attention its understandable. All hope is not lost

1) move the version you have installed to another location.
2) then reinstall 1.05 from impulse. or you already knew all that and that's what you meant by
So nix step 3.

then reverse (move instead of copy) 2 and 1.

Its not a downgrade its the latest release. 1.1 is in BETA, the tools for 1.1 will be released when its official.

You beat me Monk, I'm a little slow and tedious when I post

No I was paying attention and never got a confirmation dialog of any sort I was installing the 1.09b patch and Impulse was NOT setup to show pre-release versions, at least not to my knowledge and yet I ended up with the beta. Anyhow I've already reverted to 1.05 so I could continue modding.

Yes I know 1.1 is a BETA, but I have no interest in participating. I'll let those who like use brick walls as pillows fuss with the beta.

There was a time when I enjoyed beta testing, and then I got a job being a professional beta tester.

I apologize if that came off sounding, off. I meant that you just clicked the buttons expecting it to install and it did. Not that you were clueless or anything. If I came off that way sorry.

The Beta statement was a general comment and not directed at you at all. I hate when a hobby becomes a profession. I have lost a few good hobbies like that.
