Why is it so difficult to download a map, then play on it?

Ive been trying to play the real space.galaxy map the better portion of the afternoon. I have coppied it into every galaxy folder I can find and I still can't find the map ingame under custom.

Its such a simple thing, why is it so hard to do?

It shouldn't appear under custom, you'll find it in either small/medium/large maps. I don't know why, but if you put it in [Sins Directory]/Galaxy it will show as a normal (non-custom) map.

Hope that helps.

OK i just downloaded another map "Campaignesque" sins map.

Extracted the map file to 'c:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy' and the TGA file to 'c:\Program files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\Textures').

Can't find this map anywhere.

Did you check all the map size lists?

If so, the map may have a different name added into the galaxy file. Open it in notepad, and on the 5th line there should be browsename. If the following brackets contain anything look in all four size lists for that name.

EDIT: Just remembered, don't put the .galaxy files anywhere but the galaxy folder in the install directory. Otherwise it will crash on load (or it may be whats causing it not to show up).

Make sure that the map file itself is in Galaxy, too. Some archives are packaged so that they extract their own folder, so you may also have ended up with \Galaxy\Somefolder\map, if you definitely can't find it in the list using what KS07 wrote above.

You are saving the files in the right location. When SOASE got updated, the version number for all the maps changed. Make sure that the old maps work by opening them up in notepad and changing the second line from reading "versionNumber 0" to "versionNumber 1".

Are you runing Vista? If you are, you first need to download the files to some arbitary directory or the desktop.  Once the files are saved, copy them to the correct folder in the program files directory.
