Modding 1.09?

Hi, i've looked through the threads here but I couldn't find any info about this. Feel free to close this if i'm just blind and this has already been explained.

I just downloaded 1.09 using impulse, but I encountered problems. It seems 1.09 didn't like my mods, so I deleted the mods and reinstalled the game from scratch, then updated the game again. The game worked fine, so I tried to mod the Gameinfo files as i've always done in the past.

...Except, I can't. When I open the .entity files, they're an unintelligible mess. Before I updated the game, I was able to edit the files in notepad without any problems. Has this been changed because it is still a beta or am I supposed to use a different program now? Thanks for your help. :)

The reference data for 1.09 hasn't been released. All the stock game files have always been in binary, that's why we need IC to release the updated files for each patch :)

There is a tool that converts entity files from binary to text and back.
It is available in modding pack for 1.05.
I guess it should work with 1.09 too but I didn't check that.

I think one person found a way to get it to work somewhere on the forums, but I don't think it works normally.

I also don't remember that he actually posted any of the reverse-engineered files. ConvertData is supposed to work one way, that's text > binary. Last I heard, IC was considering releasing a reverse converter, but we don't have an official one yet. Whatever that guy did, so far, remains unproven to my knowledge.

They relese the binary to text version ages ago (with the 1.05 files). The data where the format hasn't changed will still work with the program but things like the ability files have changed and thus wont work.

Ah thanks for that, guys. So the unintelligible mess is actually computer speak? :p

Oh well, I guess i'll wait patiently for the files to be released. Hopefully it will be soon. :)

I'll wait for 1.1 proper to come out (probably should look at 1.09 anyway, but I need functional modding in order to test a utility/support program I'm writing)...

I'll let out a big "Boom-Da-Yada" when I see all the cool new stuff we get...

A lot of modders are holding off on coding until the Great Merge to 1.1...

I've downloaded the 1.1 update now...but the files are still goobledygook. Anyone know what's wrong with them so I can get modding? :)

Yarlen posted the 1.1 reference data last night, there's a sticky in the mod forum and it should be available in the Downloads section (though I think it still reads updated for 1.05 'cause he was LAZY) :P
