[Bug] longest trade route

determination error

On the map Agemmemon's Bounty (spell check please) I was playing as the TEC and created a trade route through my starting system thinking that it would go from my start anteroid to my home planet through the sun to the second asteroid through the space junk to the ice planet.  Upon the completion of my trade port on the ice planet I was surprised to find that the trade route did not pass through the space junk to the ice planet as I predicted... is this a bug or intended feature?  If this is a bug what additional steps do I need to take in order to properly healp identify it for correction.  P.S. sorry for the text wall, the last (and only) time I tried makeing paragraphs the post was submitted before I was prepared to release it.

just make ports wherever u can and they will find a way to connect xD u still give more income from the ports even if it doesnt add more to ur trade route, just doesnt add bonus from non connected ports

I can't tell if it's your issue, but you mention your route going through a star. Stars don't count for longest trade route. They break trade chains.

I would understand that, however it was the space junk that broke the chain, not the star...should I post the saved game file; if so, how?

Don't need to post the save, just a screenshot of the highlighted chain would do fine. You can upload it to imageshack.us or something.

It doesn't always connect them the way you'd expect, but so far it's still always connected them properly ;)

Alright then, two questions before I do this; Where are screenshots saved and could you please detail the process for creating and then posting a screenshot (5th forums post, ever, in any forum; so I have no idea whatsoever how to do this.)

The default key is printscreen. It will tell you exactly where the screenshot was saved when you hit it. If you are running Vista and do not see that message in the game when you take shot, go into the controls and re-bind the key to something else, it's a weird glitch in windows. Now the game saves them as .bmp, you'll have to open it in Paint and save it as a .jpg.

Then, go to Imageshack, and right on the front page there will be a "browse" button where you find your jpg shot, and then hit "Host it!". It will give you a bunch of links when it's done uploading, the only one you need is "Direct link to image" all the way on the bottom.

Post that here, and you're set :)

NO, Stars won't break trade chains, and Stars DO count as part of the trade route. Wrong again, Mazuo.

Trade routes will "pass through the space junk", if the route goes somewhere (and not just "spamming" the ajoining planets!). That's the problem. Here's a good illustrated explanation.

On Agemomnen's Bounty, it is possible to get an 11 'planet' long chain with just 4 trade ports (ea making 2.1 cred/sec). On the prior map, Derelict, there a couple ways to make an 8 long chain with just 2 trade ports, one at each end (= 1.8 ea)!

Tip: Open the map, save, then Surrender, and Keep Playing to instantly see the entire layout.

Good to see you've resorted to stalking me now, SageWon. Still all broken up about the other topic, eh?

I went off of what Annatar has stated in the past. If you want to disagree with him, please go right on ahead and fixate on him for a while instead of me. If I've remembered what you stated incorrectly Annatar, please do correct me.

Insults aren't going to get anybody anywhere.

no but I am sure it makes them feel big bad and tough enough to unleash a nerd rage.

Anyways back on topic: a screenshot if you have one would help immensely, if not a save game works too.

No but they help vent off steam when someone is being particularly annoying..

They also make the other person annoyed/angry/etc. so they then throw an insult, which then repeats itself.

Is this true?. Because in my last game I have the longest trade route starting in a star system and finishing in another.

Can you post a screenshot? I've never seen the longest trade route jump to another system, this would settle a few things :P

Here it is:

Thanks! :) First for everything I guess.

Thanks to Annatar's instructions here's my first image:
It also shows trade routes thru stars to different systems, in the Agememnon's Bounty Map, that NM020110 was referring to. (BTW, not stalking nor broken up)

Here's another one, the Derelict map, showing two systems, connected thru wormholes, and going thru space junk, v1.09. (Note: 2 ports give an 8 'grav well' chain, for income of 1.8 cred/sec for ea):

Which resolution is best to save them as at imageshack?

I was playing in Systems of War, and had the same problem. Routes can "jump" a single space without a trade post, and it successfully passed through a star and a dead asteroid, but was stopped by space junk.

Those are some pretty unusual screenshots. Pretty interesting at the same time.
